I just installed Win8 Pro using the $15 upgrade key and this image en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440. No need to actually download the install with Upgrade Assistant. Did a clean install by wiping the old Win7 partition during setup.
I thought that there had to be a version of Windows already on the partition during the installation (from DVD/USB) though?
I guess i need one of those "Promo Code" to get Windows 8 for 14.99? I would like to buy a Windows 8 product key update for 14.99. Can anyone help me to get a promo code? Or Is there anyone who has one over?
Thanks for the help But i cant buy windows 8, i download "windows update assistent" but it says: "you can not buy windows 8 online in your country or location"
I'm sure that question is going to keep coming up. From Microsoft: You upgraded to Windows 8, but didn't have a previous version of Windows installed (error 0xC004F061) If you see error 0xC004F061 when you try to activate Windows 8, it means that you're using a product key for an upgrade version of Windows 8 and a previous version of Windows wasn't on your PC when Windows 8 was installed. To install an upgrade version of Windows 8, you must already have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC. If you formatted the drive before the upgrade version of Windows 8 was installed, you won't be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8. To activate Windows 8, you'll need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 8.
I have the same issue with my upgrade key but I was reinstall Windows from the begining(clean install) and everything was ok...
Sorry man, but to clarify: I can do a clean install, booting from W8 DVD, without having to install W7 before, and then I can activate using a $14.99 serial key? Or you just said that we can install, but then I will get the activation error? I am asking because I really want to delete my partitions and start fresh for W8
I didn't read through this entire thread so I don't know if this has already been said. You can just go to the promo offer page and enter fake information to get a promo code.
There are 2 ways to buy the upgrade DVD 1) you run the upgrade assistant and you will be given the opportunity at checkout to purchase it .. You will however be only given the architecture ( x86 or x64 ) of the machine from which you are running the upgrade assistant or the architecture of the version of which you input the product key if you were asked for it .. Sometimes people are not asked for the key when applying for upgrade discount offer .. Also if you choose not to purchase during this upgrade process you can download ISO as a choice and make DVD yourself later ( best choice IMHO) 2) you can purchase the boxed set from vendor which will contain both x86 and x64 versions but you will pay more for it.
Got my 14.99 Pro upgrade key, downloaded the corresponding 32 bit file and made an ISO. But is there any way (preferably free of charge!) I can download the equivalent 64 bit file from Microsoft? (I could install 64 bit Windows 7 on a PC if necessary) If not, what type of ISO should I look out for to legally use my upgrade key for a 64 bit install? Apologies if this has already been covered somewhere.
you can run the windows upgrade on win 64 bits, 7 or 8 doesn't matter and it will download 64 bits for ya, if you don't want to go this route you can always grab it from MDL repo or torrent , just make sure you check the hashes.
