If you have used the OEM activation with modified BIOS SLIC it will work. I tried it on 2 PCs with Win7 and OEM avtivation.

I didn't use the downloaded ISO, I used the MSDN ISO and it worked just fine

    File Name: en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso
    Languages: English
    CRC-32: a5889f86
    MD4: 1c06c693f1e68ce4d2ff4ecc45dd0388
    MD5: 0e8f2199fae18fe510c23426e68f675a
    SHA1: 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4

I do have a question though, there is an activated on date but not the activated until date. Does this mean it is permanent activation, at least until hardware ID changes?

you cant buy a key for 32 bit then expect it to work on 64 bit. they key is for 32bit you bought. you have to use 32bit then.

Key is not bound to architect of OS, its for edition only.. So no problem with 64 or 32 bit edition..

Check your confirmation mail for order & you will find download link for Windows8-Setup.exe... Download it on 64bit OS, then run, enter your key & this will download 64bit Win 8..

So I tried the whole MCE fiasco but I can't get activated.

Will I be able to activate if I buy this key, and use the cmd line to change to the newly purchased key?
Will I have to remove the MCE features like I added them?

I don't think anyone in their right mind would choose NOT to download the ISO. :p

I downloaded the ISO but used the MSDN ISO to test and it was installed activated on 2 PCs. I don't know what the difference in the ISO is but I know for a fact that the MSDN ISO works just fine

Got another 14.99 upgrade using the details of a friends PC who doesn't want to upgrade to Windows 8. Problem is I'm now wary of using it. Clearly this is intended to be an UPGRADE, not for use on another PC. As MS know the Windows 7 key this Windows 8 key is supposed to be replacing, could/would they deactivate one if they detect both in use in the future???

In this case no. There is no link between the upgrade key and COA Key of his friend.

Not really. If the original Windows 7 PC was using oem:slp, there is a good chance that the serial appearing on COA label was never actually used.

Still the original Windows 7 Product Key which was used to upgrade to Windows 8 will become redundant.

where to buy the upgrade key at $15.90? I used the windows 8 upgrade assistance, it offers me a $49.90.

Btw, i installed a upgrade win8 for a friend.. there's no need to key in windows 7 key before upgrade.

First you need to have a new PC with Windows 7 installed bought from Jun 2. 2012 till January 31. 2013 and apply for an upgrade for 14.99. That requyires that you've to fill out an special order page with infos which Brand, Model and Windows 7 SN that new computer has and as of what date you bought from which dealer etc.!

If you can not provide that infos, you'll have to stick with the Upgrade for 39.99

But you have to give MS the Windows 7 COA in order to get the cheap upgrade price offer, hence my concern. If my friend had to reinstall Windows 7 later on using the COA would it be blocked due to being 'replaced'?

As pointed out above MS do say the upgrade can be installed on another PC, but did they really mean this to cover the continued use of Windows 7?

Firstly why would you re-install Windows 7 with the COA when you can install with the matching CERT and OEM SLP Key. Your Manufacture's Recovery media/ Recovery Partition will do this for you.

MS has clearly state you can use your discounted Upgrade on another Valid Base Install, in which case the Product Key on the system you use your upgrade becomes redundant and is replaced by the Upgrade Key.

Clear as day from my POV.
