Not sure if I can post the link here, just google "best buy toshiba u845w", should be one of the first links
This is so random .. I have no idea why it is not working .. I'm sure it's frustrating as hell .. I am sure they can tell how often you tried but still .. One more thing I did notice on phone number it asks for numeric entries only so that means no dash .. Also a note I have tried before and gotten the W7 key entry .. I am positive they will only let you pass one time with no W7 key entry .. Give it a few days and try again is all I can suggest ..
I'm not sure they can tell how often I tried, every time I try I reconnect my internet connection and use a different IP, as well as a different proxy. I use various names and phone numbers. I even used different machines (including my android phone). Besides, a single user is supposed to be entitled to register up to 5 different PCs. I don't think it's a matter of input format (e.g. dashes in number), I would assume it would've given me an error before submission otherwise, not a request for a key. Either way, at no point have I entered dashes in the phone number.
Oh, and I also use a fresh incognito window in my chrome browser, so there shouldn't be any local traces of my previous attempts.
I know a single user is supposed to be able to register 5 pc my point was the first time no W7 key required was my guess .. Like I said I can't say why it is not working for you and some others but yet it is working for others .. I only posted to say it is still working here without W7 key requirement so that people generally don't think that it is a dead end ..
First of all, it seems fairly obvious that somehow Microsoft is tracking IP addresses when you ask for the promo code. I don't think it ever works through proxies. But once your IP gets blocked with Microsoft, that's it. But there also must be some kind of fuzzy logic with the rest of stuff so using the same e-mail will get blocked eventually. I actually tried switching my IP address locally and used a brand new gmail. Blocked. Also, Microsoft must read the key on your machine and if it isn't an OEM wide spread key that was given just for Win7, it asks for a key. A key that wasn't ever activated before July 2013 can also get a promo code. I have a feeling that for anyone that hasn't tried to get a promo code and is using SLIC 2.1 with OEM serial may be able to get one code fairly easily. Because Microsoft reads the serial and says that's an OEM one which was still being sold new after July 2013. That serial has been activated thousands of times so how would Microsoft know the difference when exactly the machine has been purchased except if it has a record of a particular IP activating it already. Additional promo codes are almost impossible because they don't pass the fuzzy logic being used by Microsoft. --------- Personally, I hope the mods read this and rethink why asking for promotional coupon codes is a problem... especially in this particular thread. It seems like MDL is mostly geared to learning about the technical aspects of Windows etc. but this forum certainly embraces the whole concept of helping people get activated which is encouraged and should be so! And now Microsoft comes up with an incredible deal which can let people get activated for $14.99!!!! And this forum is actively discouraging this??? I don't understand??? Actually, there is until Feb 28, 2013 that this can continue for because the signup for the promo codes last until then. But there is pressure now because the $39.99 goes away in a few days. The loophole to make tons of promo codes is gone but obviously, the are probably tons of people that can get one code each and then share them with others IF they aren't going to use them. This could be many many thousands of dollars saved for people and many more legit keys will be given out which will help microsoft too. Obviously, the codes should NEVER be published directly on the forum publicly because that is going to waste tons of time for people for too many people. The codes can only be used once so why make them public??? ALL POSTS WITH REAL PROMO CODES SHOULD BE DELETED. But, I would encourage EVERYONE that hasn't tried to get a promo code yet to at least try once RIGHT NOW especially the people on this forum that often use the SLIC+OEM KEY for the Win 7. If enough people did this over the next month, there could be thousands of extra promo codes available... who knows maybe someone will figure out a trick to make it work more reliably but I doubt that. Even one extra code per person would be great! Because then they could be given away to people that will actually use them in the next month! This should be done with a simple request and then people that do have a promo code can PM someone that requested. That way the code would only be used once. If the person gets more than one PM with a code than they need, they can PM someone else that requests. Why let these codes go to waste? They are quite valuable! Spread them around to people that will use them! It would be kind of like the request thread for firmware SLIC license but instead would be used for this RARE AND EXCEPTIONAL case where very low priced Win 8 activations are being given out. Sure, the thread will be bumped non-stop until Feb 28, but maybe a bunch of people will be willing to help others. Make a new thread or just change the name of this thread to the OFFICIAL REQUEST THREAD. How many thousand pages is the firmware request thread??? It would be really great if there was a better way to organize this but it seems like it would just be kind of random like the SLIC request thread. Maybe there could be some kind of standard way the requests should be done. So let's start with the obvious. First, anyone who hasn't tried to get a promo code, PLEASE DO SO NOW. If anyone can get more than one, please tell us the trick. Then let the requests come in and a bunch of people may be able to get a copy for $14.99. Even if only a few hundred people are helped, that would be great! Or just don't allow it at all and let this opportunity go to waste. I'm still trying to figure out a way to get it to work with changing IP address. It's an interesting challenge in itself. Someone was kind enough to give me two codes and I got one by myself by calling Microsoft. This set up me and my immediate family. BUT, I could still use 3 more for extended family. Yes, that's a lot just for me but it's not really just for me because I have a lot of work to do to set up their computers etc. Some of them are still on XP so they really need an update. If I have to buy 3 extra codes, that's $120... If three people send me one code each, I can do it for $45. HUGE DIFFERENCE - obviously. I think a lot of other people could be helped out in a similar way. And the madness would stop the day after Feb 28 - THE OPPORTUNITY WILL BE FINISHED. There's nothing illegal going on here so I see no problem on that end. I'm sure Microsoft will like the increased sales too and the fact that a bunch of people are now on the Windows 8 bandwagon!
Why don't people just download win8 retail ISO's that are all over the internet with integrated keys??
Good point .. either they don't know how too or they are afraid of deactivation at some future date would be my guess
Due to no one will know what the uploader implemented in that ISO, would be my guess . Have no need for backdoors and similiar stuff here .
FYI, I just did this, exact same info but I used a date in late December if that maybe makes a difference. I had the promo code within 2 minutes. (I am physically located in the US, didn't use a proxy or provide any fake information).
I booted first with this one here: - 9200.16384.120725-1247_ProWMC_HRM_CCSA_X64FRE_EN-US_DVD.iso [MD5: 565340BE3A6D397A791E2D68E4C0848D] ... because when I tried to start the setup within Windows-7-Ultimate-SP1-x64 (DAZ v2.2) and got not offered the option to do a clean installation. When I got asked for the key, I entered the $14.99-Upgrade-Key, but it didn't get accepted, so I entered my free WMC-Key and was able to finish the installation, but couldn't activate afterwards. I checked the registry, which was fine and tried to rearm, but it didn't work either. Next I booted from this one here: - en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso [MD5: 0E8F2199FAE18FE510C23426E68F675A] ... and did a clean installation without formatting the SSD separately and without wiping the 350MB-System-Partition which contains temp. Installation-Files (?). There must have been some left-over files somewhere, as things like my Live-Login-Account etc. had not to be re-entered by me when I did the second installation. When asked for the key, I entered my $14.99-Upgrade-Key which was accepted and after I reached the Desktop I activated Windows-8-Pro online without any problems and added the WMC-Pack via my free WMC-Key, which worked also without any problems. Later on I did the Activation-Back-Up and integrated it in my Home-Made Windows-8-Pro-WMC-x64, which should work again like with my other machines, where I had only to re-enter my WMC-Key and the whole system was already activated when I reached the Desktop for the first time. As a side-note: My wife's system has my old Gigabyte GTX570-OC in it, which caused me a black screen after a necessary re-boot and I could only see the mouse-pointer. After playing around with some GeForce-Drivers, I found out that the latest v310.90 seems to cause this problem, as everything went fine, when I used the latest GeForce-Drivers for the older series (v307.74). The v310.90 are working fine for me and my Gigabyte GTX670-OC.
