I tried to run the upgrade assistant but it says your region/country (India) is not supported. I have the code but no use.
I just tried this, put in the payment details and stuff - tells me order can't be processed so I thought it was a network hiccup so I hit "Buy" again and goes ahead and charges my credit card twice anyways. Anyone else faced this ? how did they get past this? I tried calling the store but they are closed right now.
That way worked perfectly on my VirtualBox test HD, when I installed Windows 8 Pro for real the option was already on 1, activated via Phone and done. Working on Windows 8 Pro right now.
What happens at the completion of the download. I do not want it to start the install at this time. I just want to grab the ISO and hold on to it and the key until I am ready.
There should be a icon on your desktop, at any time you can double-click on it and get the choices"install now" & "make ISO/burn to USB"(something like that). You can do that as many times as you want unless you remove the program and delete the hidden directory "ESD".
I bought a couple of computers last month so I am buying two upgrades. I decided to go ahead and download the image twice to see of the hash's match. Does anyone know if your image is somehow tied to the key? I really don't think they would have gone to that trouble when you can order media if you want it.
the fact that I was able to use the purchased key on a PC that already had Win8 Pro installed is in my opinion an indication that it is not. But possible: downloaded installation tied to key, but key not tied to a particular Win8Pro download
From the FAQ page of the upgrade offer - [h=6]Do I have to install the Windows 8 upgrade on the eligible PC, or can I install it on another PC?[/h]The upgrade offer is tied to a Windows 7 PC purchased from June 2nd, 2012 through January 31, 2013, but you can choose to redeem the offer and install the upgrade on any compatible Windows-based PC with a qualifying base operating system. Now I'm wondering if I can upgrade two PCs with ONE key.
the problem is that when you made the choice of "install now" there is no way of going back the next time you run it. It sticks with the "install now" and immediately proceeds. Wonder how to reset this. Not important, still good to know....went into the C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup folder where the program resides, can't figure out what to change or remove....
When you activate it there will be a hardware hash associated with the key. When you attempt to activate on a second computer you may have the option of a phone activation. With previous operating systems the possibility of blacklisting abused keys existed but wasn't widely used without cause. Your mileage may very. At sixteen dollars (with tax) it really isn't worth it to me. I will just hold off on installing for the time being until I am decide what I want to install it on.
Got mine yesterday for 14.99...but will continue using my kms vm activated one, till MS finds some way to bust it.
BTW, if you are still waiting for MS to send you your email just check the status using your original email. Your code will probably be waiting for you.
I just got five promo codes I had forgotten that I had done them a couple months ago I wonder if you really have to down load the upgrade with the pc that qualified?
And it seems if you use IE to register for the upgrade offer you don't need to enter COA, any other browser and it will ask for COA, ie Windows 7 key. Well this is my experience. You can also run the Upgrade Assistant from Windows 8 if you run it in compatibly mode, and then also use the new upgrade key activate a previously installed Windows 8 Pro.
Activated fine on fresh install without registry hack. ISO was downloaded from MSDN and not from Upgrade assistant.
