there's that but you also have to account for compatibility issues. if it works for you and a cure for timebomb is found (i'm also not so capable) then by all means knock your self out. but Most people that dont know as much need to be aware that this is just for testing purposes. In your case you tested it on your notebook and so far everything works as you need it to. but that might not be the case for others and not a lot of help is available for them and they should be aware that as a pre-beta os it will have its faults. a lot of people are forgetting that. most not on mdl but they're readers.

windows 8 benchmark?

has anyone benchmarked windows 8 yet, I a little curious about the fps score compared to windows 7.

 

The Problem is not the reg keys, the mui File is the Problem it is not for this Build.
Replace the SCooBy explorerframe.dll.mui with the original explorerframe.dll.mui from 7955 and all is good.
You can get the most original Files from C:\Windows\winsxs Folder, enable hidden files in Explorer to search for files.

 

Uhm why do you need to install vc++?
Don't tell me you are a programmer and use "Windows 8" as your main OS.
vc++ 2010 works.

 

the reason why you cant upgrade windows 7 to windows 8 7955 is that windows 7 (rtm) is newer, before the win7 rtm was assembled microsoft was already working on win8, to upgrade from 7 to 8 we will have to wait untill the rtm of win 8 is out. till then its clean install if you are desperate to run win8.

 

This may have been addressed before, if so I apologize. I am wondering -- what is the system reserved partition that 7955 creates for? 7850 did not do this (I assume 'cause it was the 6.1 kernel?)

Unable to change network type to work in windows 8 Build 7955

Hi frnds,

during installation of windows 8 Build 7955, i set my network type as work.
After installation, i found it to be of Guest or Public type.
Is there any way out to change it to other network types (homw or work) like in windows 7.

Changing the registry gives you nothing because Windows "asks" some files for new data every time system starts. In previous versions it was reading Kernel-ExpirationDate from tokens.dat so we could easily patch the Timebomb.
In this build - we can't.

Daz told me that now Timebomb sits much deeper so "We need to go deeper" (like in Inception).

I don't have this build currently installed but when I install it, I look inside it
