I noticed a problem a few weeks ago when I connected my Samsung Galaxy S3 via USB cable to my PC the connection failed and a notification pop up from the Action Center appeared to advise that Windows needed to be activated, but after unplugging the device and rebooting the PC Windows activation was fine. However, a few days ago with recent Samsung firmware updates I had the same problem but this time Windows activation would not return once I unplugged/rebooted the device. Could this assumption be that Windows 8 is recognising the Samsung device as a major Hardware change? Or a clever ploy to remove the synching and compatibility of a major competitor? Unfortunately this time around I had to complete a reformat and reinstall backup, through much inconvenience and waste of time. After a little surfing it appears I’m not the only once with this problem. Clearly Window developers need to address issues regarding hardware and mobile device compatibility and access.
