I'm using Kaspersky 2013 IS Technical Preview myself. Kaspersky 2013 final is already out but does not support windows 8 rtm.

Humm, I have only 5 days with him, but it works right.
Keygens often referred to as Trojans but not for false positive, but because they fight against piracy.

I don't see an option in Windows Defender on Windows 8 to schedule weekly virus scans. MSE in Windows 7 had that option.

Disable MS AV, install nod32, malwarebytes Hijack This and spybot. Dont use malewarebytes actively, just for scans. Don't use tea timer in spybot but do use website (hardcore hosts file) blocking. Have remove fake antivirus ready and links to removal tools at various AV sites. After all this readiness, I almost never need it but I put it on others computers and then have the tools to help them later. Have more than one browser, like three but just use 1. Just my 2 cents.

    Best Wishes

Cuz ESS & NOD V5 is 60% Compatible with W8, ESS & NOD 6rc is 100% Compatible with W8 and (HIPS) will work fine but you must Enable this feature first.

Norton 2012 (19.7.1.5) is working very well here. No slowdowns, no beeps, automated work. I have disabled 'Smart Definitions' to have full protection against every single piece of malware :)

You people are extremely paranoid , spending your money or using pirated version will not help you, I have never used antivirus in my life and my pc works fine, none of my accounts ever hacked , I just don't use pen drives from other pc's , all the files I want to have I either download them from net or ask them to email me, IE 10 works like a charm and I just use sandboxie for extra protection , this will not work if you are click friendly i.e. you download everything , click on the pills ads in porn websites and yes always use a hosts file to block ads since they can protect you from adware and do not install bundled softwares.
Nowadays all kind of video conversion and stuff can be done online for free

Disabled "Smart Definitions"? I use Norton's on one of my desktops, think I will look into that option. I don't see how disabling anything would benefit, but let me Google that.

what I actually meant to say is that installing antivirus will not do anything , hackers create crypters which make them undetectable to antiviruses , a single virus can have infinite signatures and there is no point of using antivirus, I have seen it first hand also if you are aware of the recent mac flash Trojan and flame, duqu, stuxnet all of them successfully bypassed all 43 antiviruses in virustotal.com for more than 2 years. Researchers claimed that sandboxie is the only thing that they think could have prevented these attacks. IE sandboxie is not enough because in Pwn2Own internet explorer has a record of getting pawned first everytime so that is why I take additional sandboxing which also sandboxes java.

English is not my language so sometimes what I want to say , I end up saying something else.

Microsoft has a program in which antivirus companies share their information about new viruses and malwares and others , Microsoft uses the information from there to block those via smart filtering in internet explorer by scanning in cloud and no downloading definition or interaction is involved
