Dual boot w/ Windows 7 SP1. (Not VHD, installing on hidden Recovery (I'm not using it and I'll format it.) partition.)
It's 1995 and people are asking how they can get rid of that fugly taskbar and start button before even trying.
Precisely the reason why I'm going to give W8 a fair go from tomorrow. Plenty of time to experiment with it until it reaches RTM (August?) later this year. I am however hoping for more customization in CP than in WDP. Judging by the poll so far only 12% is going to do the same as me: Use VM first.
What exactly does this mean? Besides the start menu, I don't see any other changes. Do you know more about WCP?
Definitely a virtual machine because that version will be tossed shortly after for the next builds until the RTM.
Wait a few hours and find out! I have seen the WCP in action through Skype ScreenShare. But haven't tried it myself yet.
I experienced several crashes and freezes with Windows 8 running on VirtualBox (latest version). On my notebook it's stable enough. I used vhd to install it.
This new version is so much better than the last one, I'm not finding many bugs and the Metro is way more usable. Screw using a regular HDD, this version gets it's own SSD with a single partition on my fastest machine tomorrow.
I installed the CP x64 on a test rig & it runs great. SOoo I next created a (imitation) Win2Go flash drive, sadly it is not a fast USB 3.0 drive so it took almost 3 hrs to write the install.wim to it. Now it’s taking a long time on the first run too. I totally recommend anyone using the Win2Go USB to make sure you have a fast USB 3.0 drive
I broke out a 32GB USB 3.0 fast flash drive & redid the W2Go on it. This time it took 1/3 as long to prep the flash drive as on the slower one. So I tested it on the laptop, worked great. Edit: Ok after my success w/ the W2Go on the laptop I took a shot at the Samsung 7 Slate tablet. Tweaked the BIOS to boot from the USB & sure enough, Win8 CP ran from the same flash drive as on the tablet. Internet, networking, touch keyboard, touch screen/zoom, etc. working great. Pretty cool IMHO
Definitely VM. I use ESXi 5.1 and for all my engineers to roll out multiple machines is just silly. The system can be snapshot-ted on major changes and if a problem, just be rolled-back... cyber7-out
