I can still see the 16-bit icon for registry file... Oh come on Microsoft, when are you going to get rid of all those legacy icons! Right click a drive and you still see the same old crappy blue and purple pie graph for disk space which has been there since 16 years! Give me a break MS! Windows 8 has been under development since the summer of '09... More than 2 years... I just can't understand why you guys are blind towards these little things... Haven't you guys checked the AERO TASK FORCE site? Its good we are getting Metro, but at least change the damn aero a bit more! Give it a nice overhaul! Nobody wants an OS that still reminds of an OS two generations back(Vista)! I like the new features in Win 8, but I seriously am not at all liking Microsoft's aero/desktop strategy! Except the Start screen, almost everything reminds of Vista and 7... Seriously, aren't two years(add 1 more year, coz there's still perhaps an year to go before Win 8 RTMs) enough to create a new UI? Damn it, convert everything to Metro then if you can't overhaul aero more! A lot can be done with aero... New icons can be made for almost everything(drives, file-types, control panel items etc)... New designs/borders can be there... Till when are we going to get to see the dull greyish side border that is there in everything? (eg, click any category under Control Panel, and see that disgusting grey border!) Unless Win 8 get more metroFIED and aeroRIDDEN, its a shame on Microsoft's UI designers! Seriously! :/
What are u doing, finished with that installation? Please, give us some screenshots and this kind of stuff,details....
ehm... better say nothing than continuosly post non useful sentence WITHOUT MULTI QUOTING MESSAGES.... this is what i called counter_pusher.....
I just installed WDP on a second partition, dual booting. I want to be able to play around with the new UI but I also really want my win 7 style start menu, also, any good sites with navigation tips and tweaks?
I guess I am just greedy, I want the classic start menu and the UI. Right now I am running in the classic mode because it is easier to load programs, but I will need to switch back and forth for a while I guess. I really can't see running the metro ui in any kind of production or work environment. Also, it is ugly as sin, need to be able to customize it.
Single drive, one partition. Nothing complicated at all. It's my spare HDD.That darn Acer Aspire 5610 is always problematic to me for some strange reason. or that reason, it will be my first and last Acer ever.
Good information. So did you boot to partition utility CD and format it? I would suggest that you make 2 or more partitions of this HDD, one partition for windows installation, the other partition will be for anything else, that way you can always format the windows partition and not touch any other stuff.
I formatted the drive first to NTFS file system using g-Parted tool. That's how I normally do since Windows XP, Vista & 7 excepttion is when the drive is AFD. If AFD, I let Windows 7 format the drive first. Is that my problem not letting W8 WDP format the drive? Anyways, in W8 WDP, I could not reach install screen at all. After Windows loaded installations files, when WPD started, it went to error immediately. No change to go to screen of either upgrade or customs. Therefore, no chance to choose advanced drive where you can format the drive. @ODY123, I Google search and found only similar behavior in Vista installation where people experienced BSOD dusring Vista installation. As I said earlier, I have no issue at all when I install W8 WPD into my ancient Dell Inspiron 600M. W8 WDP runs very well in my old Dell.
