Disable UAC if not done yet. Then apply this as something.reg and reboot again. Should work. sorry couldnt find it anymore in all the threads this is the version i downloaded an hour ago depositfiles.com/files/7sbk5e17w edit: oh! too slow
why this when i try install windows 8 i have 2 cpmuter, and one i install excellent and the other apear this screen, both computer have same hardware!!!!!!!!!!
WTF. After I rebooted it wouldn't boot into Windows 8 saying I'm missing Bootmgr. Try the repair but after it reboot it went into a blue screen "The boot configuration data file doesn't contain valid information for an operating system" File: \Boot\BCD Status: 0xc0000098 Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry This is every time I try to boot from the USB to do recovery. So I took out my SSD and connect to see if I can go in and change some stuff and now nothing is recognizing/detecting the SSD. I don't even know if the SSD is dead or this Windows 8 is keeping me from seeing or detecting it in Disk Management.
LEXX - I have heard stories of the partition table being messed up really bad by Windows 8 before. But keep in mind an OS install is the most stress you can put on a HDD (generally), because it's lots of tiny files (40000+ of them) and one after the other, it heats things up. Also it's constantly writing to the sectors that contain the File Table. So even tho it may just be a messed up drive, it's also possible you could have killed a SSD by installing a lot of OS's to it (in it's life time), especially if you have hot weather or your PC is next to a heat source - like a fireplace/heater. Your best chance of recovery is with a tool like Hirens Boot CD, a Windows LivePE or another PC or HDD with Linux on it to get to some repair/partition tools.
I think the SSD is still alive. I was able to go into Repair with Command Mode and see directories but they all have some weird names. Really don't have a clue how to fix the boot manager in Windows 8. My only problem now is trying to figure out how to get it up and running again with having to reinstall the whole thing. The only problem is that it keeps going back to this bluescreen("The boot configuration data file doesn't contain valid information for an operating system")every time I manage to boot into my Windows 8 USB but it to try to fix some stuff. So now I'm trying to boot back into the USB and maybe either do a full reinstall or a partial wipe to reinstall. The SSD/drive is locked so it's not letting me Refresh the PC after I managed to boot with Windows 8 installation with a DVD disk. Man, they really locking down on Windows 8. They will not let you reboot back into your USB installation drive after the first failure to do what you need to do.
I found a simple way of changing the lock screen and user picture in Windows 8 RTM. I found this out by accident too. So I have Windows 8 RP still installed on my laptop with everything customized. So Once I signed in my MS account in RTM all of that changed to the to the ones from RP. So when ever you guys want to change your lock screen, make sure you still have RP in hand
Right now, I am running win 7 32 bit on C drive. I want to install Win 8 64bit on D drive. ---------Later can I remove Win 7 32 bit from C drive and change drive letter from D to C ? I am having an idea but dont know whether it will work !! Suppose, In C drive i have installed Win 7 and in D drive Win 8. After booting into Win 8, I make Win 8 default boot through msconfig. then I boot from windows 8 USB, and run command prompt. then I Format C drive and use Diskpart command to change the name of D drive to C and C to D. Is it possible to do?
Yeah , I noticed this too , it's a bit hit and miss coz the lock screens are different designs but it does work!
Windows 8 RTM boots and installs nicely with EFI on a MacBook Pro (Early 2011), unlike Windows 7. Halfway through the install process, an error shot up: "Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed." I have cleared all my previous Windows 7 and Mac partitions just to install Windows 8 RTM, so there is only one unallocated partition on my internal HDD. When I use BIOS mode to install Windows 8 RTM, everything installs and works just fine. I do not know whether this is a Mac or Windows 8 problem. I have searched the forums, and no one is talking about this error, so I posted mine instead. Help is highly appreciated! Sounds like a Mac issue. Are you sure the Mac boot partition is removed? Maybe Windows 8 installer can't see it. Have you booted the MacOS system disc, used Disc Utility and verified all partitions and removed?
I run my taskbar on the left side of the screen and so the start button used to be in the top left corner of the screen. This is now an issue with Win8 as the Metro hot corner button doesn't move to the top left when you move the taskbar to the left side. Does anyone know if you are able to manually move it with a reg key etc?
I just tried with Classic Shell, that will place it at the top, ALTHOUGH Task switcher will appear if you go to far in the top left corner with the mouse. The reason they made it stay in the bottom left is so when your using a Tablet you'll know where to press with your thumb/finger of choice. So Classic Shell is your only option, you can make it Launch Metro by default. Smart people realize Vertical space is more valuable than width on a wide screen monitor, so putting a taskbar on the left side makes more sense to me (Ubuntu's Unity figured this out too).
Well that sucks tbh. This means the metro hot corner button will always overlay the show/peak desktop button.
