A question- why wouldn't you want to install this one? There are a lot of files that are updated in it, so I'd think there could be more possible improvements than just those three listed.

KB2768703 is an interesting situation. It only contains the GDR branch. But KB2756872 (which is what KB2768703 was designed to fix) contains both the GDR and LDR branches of that component. So, if you've installed KB2756872 the way normally suggested here by using a method that forces the LDR branch to be installed, KB2768703 will not be applicable. So technically, KB2768703 is not superseded, but it also is not necessary as long as you've forced LDR branch to be installed. This is one example showing the advantage of using the LDR branch vs the GDR branch (i.e., the issue fixed by KB2768703 is fixed [or never even occurred originally] in the LDR branch of KB2756872).

2770917 is not superseded and is in the repo
2772501 is not superseded and is now in the repo
    2780541 is superseded by 2769034 & 2782531

Some of these updates are available through Windows Update, but many of the hotfixes are not. If your computer has been running fine with only updates provided through Windows Update and you're not sure which of these to install, then you could just continue to use only Windows Update and you probably won't be missing anything. But if you want to try these, just install everything. This project is really for enthusiasts who want as many Windows components as possible to be updated to the very latest versions possible. Another way to view this is as a "service pack" that's continually being updated.

When I'm on clean image in VM (Win8 Pro) and use Windows Update, of the large updates (160mb, 140mb, etc.) I get the following order of updates offered:

    1. The first WU session I get offered KB2769165 (160+mb) and a bunch of other, smaller, updates. I then need to restart.
    2. After restart I again go to WU and then get several more updates offered, and only then, of the larger updates, I get offered: KB2756872 and KB2770917, which show sizes of 169mb and 142mb, respectively.

    So to summarize:

    a. KB2756872 and KB2770917 are not offered on my first WU update cycle.

    b. KB2770917 lists in WU as being 142mb in size, whereas in my .msu list downloaded from the Win8 repo here, this update is only 90mb in size. Is that WU messing up the update's size, or is this a different version of this update?

EDIT: and now Abbodi says "Kb2782531 = kb2770917" to make it even more interesting :D
    EDIT2: so Kb2782531 is just a KB-article referring to KB2770917 update?

To put it simply: Windows Update (WU) does not offer ALL updates that come out. WU mostly offers security updates to keep your OS safe, and now with Win8 it seems also it offers some larger, optimization updates on WU. Inside the updates are different Windows files; some of these included files have newer versions than your OS has, or that get offered to you in updates on WU. So what they do here is keep a list of all updates that Microsoft releases, some of which don't get offered on WU. So for most users it is easiest and best to just use WU and not worry about the rest. But for those who either 1) want the latest files, or 2) use the .msu updates offered here to integrate into install images (make your own updates images), this repo is the place to be

Yeah,I noticed that I've misread the article I saw that mentioned the out-of-band update an hour or so after I posted it,but the forum was inaccessible here,so I couldn't correct my mistake.

If the same files are replaced with newer versions with a new update, as long as you use the LDR version it incorporates all previous hotfix changes such that it does replace the earlier update. The GDR version of the newer update however does NOT replace the earlier update unless the earlier update was for a Windowsupdate release, as those update changes are incorporated in the newer version. A GDR Update incorporates only previous Windowsupdate changes plus the current KB article fix.

This is why it is important to force install the LDR versions, since they include all earlier update changes. The LDR version of the new hotfix is only installed if installing the normal way if a previous hotfix was installed. In this scenario, the LDR version has to be used to replace the earlier update.

Also kb2783251 contains a component (microsoft-windows-appx-deployment-server) not replaced by kb2795719, but these components are replaced by another update. The combination of these two new updates supersede kb2783251, not either of them by themselves.

The hotfix archive contains both GDR and LDR versions. The LDR version is only installed if the required circumstances are met, otherwise the GDR version is utilised. If you want to force install the LDR version, you can use my installer :)
