Update: 12. MS Baseline Security Analyzer v2-2 - Isn't too much compatible with IE10. IE10 often crashes, when opens links "How to correct this" and "What was scanned" from MSBA. Now, there is 2nd issue: It tells "Automatic Updates are NOT enabled" while they in fact are enabled.
Update: 25. Trillian v5-2-0-13. It can't connect to Skype, because skypekit.exe crashes silently. It happens after the two monster updates of the last month. Version v5-3-0-9 Beta works.
Try the Desktop version of Skype! I had problem with the Modern UI Version, Desktop version just works fine.
I use Trillian, because I have one IM app for 10 IM accounts (Astra, AIM, FB, GTalk, ICQ, WLM, MySpace, Skype, Twitter, Yahoo)... Update: 26. FFDShow rev4494 clsid x64. FFDShow VFW x64 window doesn't appear.
Update: 28. O2 SMSender v1-86. Start menu shortcut for main EXE isn't created. Switching to another languages doesn't work.
Update: E. If user doesn't enable IE10 Enhanced Protection Mode (x64) just after the W8 install, later he may not be able to do so.
I've also had issues with Catalyst 12.10 on a 780G chipset. There is something wrong with the AMD AHCI driver. The install log reports success but on reboot there is a BSOD. Switching to IDE mode allows a clean boot. On the 700 series chipsets there was also a boot failure due to AMD AHCI drivers related to Windows 7 but that problem could be solved by editing a line in the amd_sata.inf file. This new problem is different from from the previous. I'm glad that chipsets other than the 700 series are problematic--maybe someone will find a solution soon. I will continue to work on this because the MS AHCI driver is not that good.
Some of the online games with nProtect gameguard doesn't run on Windows 8 32bit version.. GameGuard Error: 114 GameGuard initialization error. Try rebooting and executing the game or close the program considered to cause a collision.
If i am not mistaken, the list in the opening post (as well as some later posts) seems heavily outdated. So far, i haven't encountered a single Compatibility Problem. I am just kidding I was trying to install VGA drivers in an old machine having VIA Chipset, and just couldn't get the damn drivers to work under Win8. Although same drivers were working just fine under 7. However, i have yet to find a Software to be incompatible with 8.
It seems that Symantec Workspace Virtualization makes metro apps crash. After i uninstalled it metro apps was working fine. I am not 100% sure if it was SWV or something else tho.
Dont know if its been mentioned but Kaspersky Anti virus 2013 stops some metro apps like store working on the Windows 8 desktop. It doesnt seems to affect anything else and they are supposed to be updating the software to overcome the problem soon... other than that its certified Windows 8 compatable
It is a problem in interactive mode (advanced users select it intentionally). In automatic mode (default), it doesn't block modern apps after recent patch (e).
Is Pidgin not a better alternative? Random note about GameGuard games (not sure if it was mentioned), if you have avast! installed, starting a game that uses GameGuard can cause a BSoD with something about a critical process stopping. Stopping avast! shields doesn't work, have to actually uninstall it it seems.
Good news: 1. OpenVPN v2-3 RC2 I001 fixed all crashes from earlier versions. Update: 29. Cryptload v1-1-8 crashes (fortunately only once) just after installation and 1st online update. 30. FFDShow rev4496 - x64 VFW Settings (yellow icon) can't be runned. 31. Toaster v0-7-8 - The colors (foreground, background and font) can't be set. Edit: E. If user enables IE10 Enhanced Protection Mode (x64) but disables UAC, he will get just x32 IE tabs (not x64 as proclaimed).
Update: 32. MS Live Essentials Account Sign-in Assistant v6-5 can't be installed, so MS Games for Windows Live v3-5-89-0 doesn't work.
