A complete guide from VHD setup to activation commands to fulfilling 25 client requirement. Actually it is not easy to manage 25 client/VM requirement for novice user like me and activation after 30 days. Is there any simple way?
so for me to change the token files, cant i just turn off software protection service and replace them then then turn it back on then reboot, or do i have to go thru another OS?
For auto shutdown, i used this: choice /T:30 /D N /N > NUL "%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe" /p /f Then activated under VM settings to revert back to snapshot at shutdown. Now i only need to start the VM, process is completed in 1 minute.
Doesn't matter how you do it, as long that you can replace the files you are set. I also used a live cd for this.
So let me see if I have this right: Fresh windows 7 pro with sp1 (VM or norm). Install KB275817 x64 and reboot. Turn off net, turn off UAC. Install KMS key. Turn off VM and apply uuid.bios change in vmx file. Either thru live CD or thru Windows, replace the tokens.dat and pkeyconfig files. Restart and it should be ready to get the 25 activations, if asked if moved or copied select moved it. (in my case by /skms 192.168.1.x:1688 , correct?) ?
what do you mean by default settings? The only thing i am doing other then just installing is turning off UAC. This is ok right? If I do the steps I said above everything should be just fine right?
If 64 bit version is used, pkeyconfig.xrm-ms has to be changed in system32- and SysWOW64-folder (for complete path see pdf). Then it should work.
Default = Choose custom install, VM workstation 8 or 9, install os later, MS windows 7 (x64), 1 processor with 1 core, 1GB RAM (1024), choose your network type, then click next till HDD = 1 file, next till end. Change uuid, install windows and so on.
Ok and a question that still has not been clearly answered yet so if someone can clearly answer for us. Do we have to do this 25 VM thing every 30 days, or every 180 days? Also, cant we just change a few numbers/letters on the UUID each time we start up the client VM and do it that way? Wont that work since the UUID would be different?
Your first job is gonna be to restart the VM from the snapshot, made after the rearm cmd, 25 times so that the host is ready to activate. After that you only need to restart the VM daily to retain the +25 count.
As i understood, within 30 days that treshold has to be renewed through 25 new machines activating against the host. No need to change uuid, create a vmware win 8 client snapshot, as described some posts before. Then every time you power on that client, after reverting to that snapshot, count on host is raised by 1.
Make a new VM, no install and change UUID. Fresh windows 7 pro with sp1 on that vm. Install KB275817 x64 and reboot. Turn off net, turn off UAC. Install KMS key. Either thru live CD or thru Windows, replace the tokens.dat and pkeyconfig files. Restart and it should be ready to get the 25 activations, if asked if moved or copied select moved it. All we should do is just keep that snapshop client so every 20ish days we run it 25 times and we are good to go, or every 170ish days run it again so we can activate our clients. BTW is this new for windows 8? I never remember the "within 30 days that treshold has to be renewed through 25 new machines activating against the host" thing. If I remember right after the 25 was reached, your good to go. Now that we have a working KMS with activation files, cant a mini KMS be made now?
Yep, you got it. After first boot you enable the build-in Admin account and disable the one you made at install. Don't need a mini KMS, have my own server now , but this would be a matter of time before it's released by someone.
That is also a way to do it, but this would only increas the volume of your folder. By making a snapshot just before login, you also created a snapshot of the used nvRAM.
