I guess this "core" version is the one that will ship with most home laptops and desktops.

    TO CLEAN KMS:
    slmgr /ckms

    TO SET KMS TO LOCALHOST:
    slmgr /skms localhost

OK one last question for now.... On the AIO ISO I have there are options for Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 Pro VL - what is the difference between VL and non VL?

VL can be activated by KMS only and can not be upgraded to a WMC Version.

Seeing that win8kms4.mooo.com is currently offline I activated an Enterprise install using the columbia.edu server. That worked fine but what happens when that server becomes permanently "offline"?
Will it remain activated until the end of the 180 days?

Nope, will not, after 180 days activation has to be renewed. So build your own host :D.

No I mean will it remain activated between now and 180 days even if the server that activated it is unreachable?

Seems one day we have more mushrooms than clients ... lol
Now I setup my hamachi VPN and provide this just in case one cannot activate against an open server :D

All I did was forward port 1688 to the local IP of my VM in the router settings.

If you want it reachable from all over the Net, you have to give your host a dynamic IP/adress with a service like no-ip or dynDNS or similiar, just google for it.
