Not a security hole (unless there's some unknown vulnerability in KMS), but potentially a query from M$ or similar. Still not much of a concern though, with all of the mushrooms "out there" now. And with the Columbia EDU folks hanging themselves out there as they are, we little people aren't the ones with targets on our backs.

In your router forward port and even create a firewall rule in your host, better then generally disabling it. You can use me as your guinea pig, if you want to test.... Then per PM.
just a ask , is possible run Windows 8 KMS or similars verions in VMWARE 6 , 7 or 8 ? the problem in my PC , is a P4 3.0 and cant run VMWARE 9 any solution ?

Maybe the problem come from DNS config ? i put type host DNS , then entered my VM New ip (when i switch to bridged, i get new ip) and my KMS is listening on 1688. But actually, is that normal IP change when go to bridged ?
The easy way and the way I always run network services in VMware: Run bridged and also check the box to replicate physical connection state. Then on the VM OS I set a static IP on my LAN, set up the gateway IP and the DNS to google DNS. This works and I can forward the port directly to that local IP and everything always responds as required. Happy to help more if required
These are the steps I took to access my kms host from outside my network using VMware Workstation 9. This is based on already having a working activated kms windows 7 host with the minimum 25 host count. From my experience and many hours to get this to work I realized that there are a lot of network variables, ISPs and routers used to consider to get this to work. My system is using a Linksys E4200 router with automatic DHCP configuration. 1. I set my VMware to a bridged connection. 2. Running an elevated command prompt from my VMware kms host I determined the IP address by typing in ipconfig /all. For my setup this gave me my internal ip address IPv4 as 192.168.1.122. 3. In the Win7 or Win8 kms host virtual system go to control panel, turn off the firewall. 4. Access your routers configuration. For me I typed in 192.168.1.1 and entered the proper user name and password. 5. In the router setup menu there is DHCP server setting. For me it shows DHCP server as enabled. To the right of that there is a DHCP reservation tab, I clicked that and put in the 192.168.1.122 kms host address to be reserved. Note that these internal addresses will be specific to each system. 5. I then went to applications and gaming tab, single port forwarding tab and typed in 1688 for both internal and external ports. I then entered my kms address of 192.168.1.122, checked enabled and saved. At this point the kms host is now setup to accept activation requests from outside the network. To test my setup I used my Samsung S3 phone and used the mobile hotspot. I used my laptop and connected it to my mobile hotspot to get a connection outside my network. I then used my internet ip address 64.16.126.129 (note this is not my address and I am using these numbers as an example). In this example, on the system to be activated run an elevated command prompt and type in slmgr -skms 64.16.126.129 and hit enter, wait for the conformation box. Next, run slmgr -ato and wait for the conformation box. If everything is configured correctly the box will show that the system is activated. These steps worked for me with my system and will vary with other systems. Disabling the firewall in the kms host seemed like the most important factor in getting this to work.
