Again: Because you probably installed from pro_vl media. You have to use e.g. en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso and install using the generic VL key.
These are the SHA1's for VL versions. Compare with your iso, would be easy enough. Code: Windows 8 Pro VL (x64) – DVD (English) File Name: en_windows_8_pro_vl_x64_dvd_917699.iso Languages: English SHA1: 6DDEDEBE40AB59CB11823F62F475C43C4053FE60 3.24 GB (3,488,145,408 bytes) Windows 8 Pro VL (x86) – DVD (English) File Name: en_windows_8_pro_vl_x86_dvd_917830.iso Languages: English SHA1: 548AB51161FD83B889596B143D86C1EEB61EF2D0 2.37 GB (2,548,852,736 bytes) These are non-VL Code: Windows 8 RTM English, 64-bit (x64) Size: 3.33 GB File Name: en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso SHA-1: 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4 Windows 8 (x86) English 2511 MB File Name: en_windows_8_x86_dvd_915417.iso SHA-1: 22D680EC53336BEE8A5B276A972CEBA104787F62 AFAIK, the VL doesn't have what is needed to install WMC. This is why Pro regular is used.
Dear damianfox, Would you mind sharing the method you used to build your KMS Server? I'm considering several different options, and would like to get some feedback from others about their personal experiences of the process. Thanks in advance. . .
Right, that's Pro VL iso, you can't upgrade to WMC. This is a perfect example of how you create confusion by posting inaccurately, without enough care and attention to detail. You used the phrase "convert it to 8 pro VL", which made stefan7 think that he needs to have Pro VL edition. This was wrong. You enter a VL key, but you don't convert anything. Also, stop using the word "legal". It isn't. It passes all genuine and validation tests (for now), but that doesn't make it legal.
My copy of 8 Pro is whatever the microsoft store has you download. I use the bought serial(Retail) to activate my machine. I use the same copy of 8 to do the activation we talk about here but use that serial from technet and then from there I use them WMC free keys to make permanent. So mine shouldn't work on other machines right? Or is mine VL as you say it needs to be? Thanks for clearing this up for me.
That would be a retail copy. You have a retail key (the one you bought) and used it to activate right? why do you need to use a VL key to activate via KMS (the activation we talk about here) when you already have an activated copy using your retail key? Your what would not work on other machines? your retail key? yes, it won't. Christmas already? thanks.
Why guess when you can check facts? Code: _vlmcs._tcp.mit.edu. 1800 IN SRV 0 0 1688 KMS.MIT.EDU. And of course it's firewalled for off-campus hosts. Their admins aren't complete morons it seems.
lol correct, you can ping to see if its there, but it wont tell you its actually activating anything unless you try.
I will try on Wmware let see if it is working there i will let everyone know. Added: I does work W8 Office 2013 Pro Plus on Wmware.
