Just an update, I had a little more time. Exporting and importing VM on another host, works. Re-applying an activation token to a cloned VM (BIOS ID/GUID/ and Others the same) half way works. slmgr -dlv shows it activated, but it never listens on the TCP port.
Might be a stupid question, but what does "netstat -nab" say about that port? Worth checking of the service is listening on that port to begin with.
This is not correct. Under some circumstances, you can activate Windows 8.1 with just copied tokens, without needing to know the product key. As a test, I installed Windows 8.1 Pro freshly with default product key. Cleared the default key with "slmgr /cpky". Copied over tokens (data.dat, tokens.dat), which were backed up from a previous successful phone activation of Windows 8.1 Pro on the same machine. Windows was activated, and "slmgr /dlv" was showing the correct last 5 digit of the product key contained in the tokens, even though I never entered it.
At this point, only with a valid MAK or against a legit KMS Host. There are no public KMS Servers that have been identified for 8.1 and KMS V6 emulation is not yet possible.
I never thought of clearing the existing default key. Perhaps there is a registry key set to one key and then the tokens don't match so it reports not activated.
noob question i have in desktop computer windows 8 pro is pirate version .. but now i buy my own windows 8 pro key ... how i can use my own key and deleted the pirate key ... ? also i use one those kms server i can change the server to use one of the MS is that will be posible or i will have to do a clean install... ? Also if i not wrong i can use my win8pro key to get win8.1pro activated? thanks
to use you Genuine Key insert it. when you do it ill delete the Pirate Key. and your win 8.0 Pro key should Activate your Win 8.1 Pro key mine did.
thanks for thw awnser what about the KMS server ? windows will use MS kms server or the pirate i just add when i actived my current windows version ?
I think the product key for 8.1 might be stored in the following 2 binary keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DigitalProductId and/or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DigitalProductId4 I haven't tested it yet.
I have also noticed this. there is a file in "C:\ProgramData\regid.1991-06.com.microsoft\regid.1991-06.com.microsoft_Windows-8.1-Pro-with-Media-Center.swidtag". View attachment 24189
Hey so I'm sure this question gets asked a lot now and I'm probably just being a noob/overly cautious but: My 180 day KMS activation ran out today, and I'm getting the annoying watermark. Can I just reactivate with KMS like I would with a new install? What are the downsides of not being activated, apart from the watermark?
I've used an offline activator now because I couldn't find any KMS servers... thanks for the reply anyway though, I'll bear that in mind
