I would be simper if kms server emulator runs with user rights
and with admin rights execute
slmgr -skms localhost
slmgr -ato

Exists a standalone kms server that runs with user rights ?

I never trust hacked KMS servers unless its mine or someone I know.

 

So confused. I'm hoping to use a copy of windows 8.1 on my mac via bootcamp. Before buying as its just so I can use a couple of games I want to test if it works. Which 64bit version of 8.1 should I use with KMS activation and do I need a generic key aswell?

 

Generally it depends on if you have a ei.cfg to tell what the install version, then NO key is needed.
I use several KMS Activators, and best I can tell, they are all very easy to use.. but if you not sure how to use it.
KMS VL All is quite good, or KMS AutoNet is quite good... I can Recommend either one...

 

How do I know if I have an ei.cfg & need a key. I was going to use the Microsoft Toolkit KMS. Still unsure which download of windows to use so I don't need a key.

 

The volume versions don't need a key during setup.

The ei.cfg file would belong inside the \sources\ folder of the ISO.
