Isn't that just supported for security updates? With mainstream update/hotfix support ending much sooner? (was it 2014?)
I would sooner run XP as that's a true desktop OS at least. MS's reason to push Windows 8 with metro to the desktops is simple. They can make more money by selling you metro applications that do a lot less than real desktop applications And people wounder why Windows 8 is quicker, it's 2D with flat colours and boxes. Sure there's code tweaks but what it adds to loading times it takes away in productivity. For me when you google "windows 8 metro is" the suggested searches are ugly, awful and crap
why upgrade fom simplicity? i don't ask for much. " Too many people overvalue what they want and undervalue what they have."
I don't wonder why W8 is quicker. If in fact it was mostly because of the "2D" with flat colours and boxes that it's faster, it doesn't really matter to me why. Not that I necessarily believe that, anyway, because that doesn't fully explain why W8's bootup process alone is so much faster, regardless of whether you stick with Metro or bypass it manually or automatically and use the Desktop. What coding tweaks are you talking about adding to loading times and taking away in productivity? The Start Menu is the only argument in that area as far as I'm aware, but it's only definite to be unproductive in the short term. Just as with the Ribbon UI, especially in Office, for a few years I used Classic Menu for Office, then I stopped. The Ribbon UI no longer gets in my way and is actually better for me. There's a possibility Metro will be similar. In my opinion the "2D" part doesn't reduce my productivity. Of course, the Metro part doesn't either since I just ignore it for now. FYI: Props to you for Windows Loader and your helping people solve their issues.
I would be curious to find out if any of the same people who argue against the removal of so much Aero in W8/the propagation of simpler UI elements, would ironically agree with your statement.
@ roirraW "edor" ehT The 2D doesn't reduce productivity, but the start screen for me does. I like to view everything that's going on so I can see the tray events, wireless connection and other goings on at all times. So in Windows 7 I can press the Windows key and start typing what I'm looking for and find it, but to do that in Windows 8 I have to lose sight of my desktop. That's annoying to me, especially since I'll never use Metro or purchase any metro applications. If I was told that I have an option between Windows 8, OS X and flavour of Linux I'd use either OS X or Linux.
I'm just going to stick with the superior OS for me, which is Windows 7. I do already have a Linux partition and a few virtual machines though
It's what I'd use on my virtual machine, but on a real desktop I feel that I shouldn't need to use extra software to give me the experience I want. Like Windows 7 is easy to activate, it has the start menu I like, it's plenty quick enough and it has DVD support and Windows Media Centre as standard.
Do not forget KGB und CIA.......... Greetings Daz !, I have to agree, at least, 150% to all what you have said in these 4 pages (by now). WIN 8 to me is something that will try (and looking at Sigmund Freud's theory of human intelligence...........)to take all of us to Cloud computing (back to 1960's mainframes)so we will all have a "telephone like" system where we will pay for every single packet in and out for the rest of our lives. Back to terminal mode and consume baby, consume........... Then they will know all what we do, see ,etc, etc.
!?!!?!?!!?!?!?!!?! Do not forget KGB and CIA???? What is that!!!! Also, We don't need to go back to terminal mode.
Don't want to sound brainwashed or anything but I choose Windows 8 for the speed and simplicity. It's much cleaner with the new Start screen and simple looks. For my needs it's excellent which I have explained in another thread. I see it as a lightweight OS with a lot of potential. I never really liked Vistas and 7s AERO theme and I'm glad it's kicked out for good, the truth is that my dual boot with Windows 7 looks like Windows 2000, heck I even got the sounds from it too. I usually just buy a cheap OEM license like I always have in the past, Windows 8 is no exception. Maybe I love it or maybe I'll get bored of it after a couple of months who knows, but then I always have the trusty Windows 7 to fall back too. It feels to me that for each OS that gets produced the less bloated it is and I haven't seen much yet in Windows 8.
Amen to that last sentiment, and the first, too. IMHO some people read into things way too much and that the truth is a good balance between extremes like trust and paranoia.
