One off the best working Solution: 1.Start8 (Configure Start8 - Control - Unselect Automatically go to the Desktop when I sign in). 2.Use Advanced Tokens Manager v3.5 & Save in a Safe Place (From Thread: Skip Metro). 3.Use Bypass Metro UI (From Thread: Skip Metro). In my opinion @ace2
start8 is perfect. i found it today googling and bought it for 5bucks. tried vistart. doesnt come close.
Classic Shell is the best. Free, start menu, disable metro hot corners, skip start screen and boot to desktop all in one. It's just great
I cant vote for it because it is not in the pole but my vote goes to StartIsBack (by Tihiy) works for me
Stardock Start8 1.0 is awesome start menu alternate for Windows 8. I am using it since beta and have found it very close to Windows 7 Start Menu. It also displays list of installed store applications and let the user search them too. Classic Shell has been updated with similar functionality but it is late in the party
I use classic shell because it's free, was offered in ninite when I did my initial software load on Win8, has a Windows 8 start icon, seems to perform fast, and logs-in straight to desktop.
Does classic shell provide the same appearance as the Start8 Modern theme which fits perfectly? I just saw a video but didn't like any of its designs yet. The video was a bit old, though.
I'm currently using Start8 on my laptop I like it because I can modify the modern theme within the start menu. I even bought it heck Microsoft should of implemented this type of start menu within 8 in the first place maybe more people would of bought Windows 8.
No, it does not provide the exact same look as Start8 from Stardock. Classic Shell is free, however, while Start8 is not. If you want to spill some cash to have something highly functional and familiar: go for it.
first I use Start8 by Stardock but it is not free then I use Classic Shell but now I try to use vivastart menu. and it is free too
Just started using Pokki, and wow - it's great! Not only a start menu, but an app store and notification center too. I love how it doesn't try to mimic previous versions of Windows, yet still has a familiar look to it, and is very simple to use. It also allows skipping the "Metro" screen on start-up too, which is especially great for me because I need to enter my TrueCrypt password on each boot anyway, so the desktop was always my first stop. Can't recommend this app enough! I see it's on the list, but unfortunately not an option in the poll.
Hi guys, which one of these software actually don't load the metro UI? i know "startisback" doesn't load the metro UI to memory which results in better performance and less RAM consumed. any other alternatives to "startisback"? thanks,
