    Can you post a link

I want to thank Tito (link corrected) and vymrdal (and others) for all their help. I now understand and the confusion has lifted.:tooth:
Lastly is it possible to post a link to these iso's (not sure if it's allowed on MDL). If not can you direct me to where I can download them. Regards...

I did a google search. very hard to find these downloads with all the dmca regulations. I did find one on a torrent site. its supposed to be the retail win 8_64_915440. I installed it on virtual box and the pro key works (CRYQH) but the core key (CYQG3) does not work. If both versions are supposed to be on this dvd why didn't the core version product key work? Regards...

no I do not have the key in bios. I do not have a win 8 machine yet. all this posting and trying to learn is in anticipation of getting win 8 oem machines for repair that will need re-installations of windows 8. I just want to be sure that the dvd I am using will automatically pick up either the core or pro version that is installed in this hypothetical machine. I figured if both versions are on this disk that it should accept both core and pro keys. Guess it doesn't work like that? Regards...

ok cool, got it. didn't realize I was actually testing activation by just installing win 8 in virtualbox. So its safe to assume that an oem win 8 machine should activate automatically by using this downloaded retail win 8 dvd I got off the web?:) Regards...

    it activates

I have the version of windows 8 (supposedly retail) installed in virtualbox. I ran cody's toolkit v.2.4.1 and it activated my copy of win 8 for 6 months. Regards...

Did you ever make up your PE disk, they are a must if you intend on repairing computers example if you cannot get a system to boot and it has recovery partiton but you cannot get access you can boot to PE and access recovery partiton then use for example gimagex or WinNTSetup and apply recovery.wim to c:

Thx for suggestion but recovery partition puts back all the OEM Bloatware. Better to start from scratch with slipstream win disk that is tailored to my liking with software that I deem useful to clients. While setting up windows I delete the recovery partition since the computer is no long under warranty, the user has no idea how to use recovery disks and I pick up wasted GB of space. Regards...

Next version will include slic detection reading firmware (windows 7 only).
Makes wonder if msdm table could be accessed in the same way?.

Time to test, if it works a messagebox will pop up.
Anyone with Windows 8 OEM system want to give it a try?.

Thx the "MSDM" string is from the msdm table signature so it works.:)
Now assuming the product key is there all I need is the offset.

Nice I've updated Windows 8 Product Key viewer .

    version 1.4.5

SLIC and MSDM detection in Win7,Win8 (oemid).
View product key in MSDM table.
Checkbox leet you switch between product key in registry and msdm table if present.
Auto hide controls if features are not available.
