Hi just installed so far working great one thing I do not like is the media server icon showing upin my computer window. Is there any way to get rid of it and disable it ? I checked my network settings and I made sure to disable media streaming but it refuses to go away from my compuer window plz if anyone knows of a way to completely disable it plz let me know thanks
this is how i did it.did as instructed above.clicked on my name,in metro, then clicked change user tile.you should then get another window. there you click on browse.in the next window i had to click,go up.then a bunch of folder options showed.i clicked my pictures as thats where my pictures are.click on a picture once, then in the bottom right corner click choose image.then push the windows plus d key on keyboard to get back to the desktop.hope that helps.
i found another way to get back to the desktop.after selecting your picture.push your mouse all the way to the left of your screen, and picture of your desktop should appear,(or you may see other windows if you had opened any previously)click your mouse(without moving it away from the side) and you will be back to your desktop.(actually, this works when you have any window open)
Well that was easy. The most recent ATI drivers (11.8, if I remember correctly) installed easily, and I didn't even have to select a compatibility mode. Games and game development SDK's are running smoothly, so I might just use this as a main OS.
Anyone get this to install using virtualbox? I get just past loading files then after a short period of black screen it keeps flashing computer needs to restart with some code below it.
Installed Win 8 x64 and I absolutely HATED it. What a POS interface they have now... I can't believe this is what they are going with for PC's... for tablets and phones I understand, but for PC's this is a nightmare... I can't remember ever having felt so annoyed and disappointed at an OS, and I've installed everything from Win95 to Win7. I prefer Win7 over 8 completely. They are just making Win8 this way because of their need to become big in the tablet and phone markets. Who else who is SANE would want to mess with what is essentially a touchscreen interface style on a Desktop PC with a mouse? No, I will stick with Win7, they can have Win8 and keep it. Wow... this is just getting bad. You can't even find a friggin start menu in this POS. I don't understand what all the hype is about. This is not a step forward in desktop computing.
Looks pretty cool with the wallpaper 'behind', but that ain't blue buddy, either adjust your monitor or your going color blind. That screen is about as green as can be LOL. How'd you do that? I hope somebody will code an app to change it easily.
Hey everyone! Judy a few things that I thought that I would point out after installing the build about an hour ago, if im wrong about any please correct me. 1) I have seen it posted in different blogs around the net about this build having to be installed by either a bootable USB or DVD. You could however easily install it just by mounting the iso just like 7 or XP. 2) I have also seen that you could not upgrade from windows 7, YES YOU CAN! So far everything is exactly perfect with the windows.old folder intact just like 7. The only thing I have noticed is that none of your programs are transferred over. Just your documents, desktop etc.. 3) IMO Windows Metro is totally not ready for primetime. It sucks. There is a simple registry hack though that I did that converts the look almost back to windows 7 but has still has a whole bunch of small windows 8 stuff thrown in. Now it seems almost perfect and also a lil faster and snappier then windows 7 did. Anyway, i thought i would share...
Also, here is one more thing, for some reason I had to restart my PC a few times before it started to detect my hardware devices. Once it did thought they now work fine.
Did you miss it? The startscreen IS the new Startmenu, easy to use and more Touch and Click orentied but works fine with keyboard too (just type and automaticly search) It's easy to use, but needs more functionality (it does not replace 7's startmenu's functionality as of right now, Pinning, History, Unified Search, easy to see Shutdown/Sleep button has less useability right now, but these things should still change till Beta) Im looking forward to use a non glitchy W8, WDP is to glitchy to use it as Temp MainOS
I personally think that the whole start menu thing and everything is a great idea and concept, it just aint ready yet. It seems like they still got a whole lot of work to do.
hoping for whatever functionality we had in win7 same in win8 is just a mistake..come on guys this is a new OS..MS initially told this is reimagining of windows...this is still in early days..its still WDP..wait for beta to arrive and the RTM..things will get more clarity..let us not jump into the conclusion...i personally did not had any problem what so ever with this WDP build..yes there are few hick ups initially but once you spend few hours with this then you'll get use to it.i find no problem with shut down or restart..i must say this is great OS in making..
