    the reg entries are for Windows XP not for POSReady2009 hence of course if you are running POSREady2009 they are NOT required.

    @Bytebuster
    First let me say I don't have POSReady 2009

    I Did some fooling with these 2 reg hacks on my test partition with XP pro media center. I never put any protection on that partition.

    Here is what I did:
    1... installed the reg hack to get updates. That works just fine.
    2... Installed MSE v4.4.304.0 (suppose to be the last version for XP) Installed and updated no problem!!
    3... Uninstalled MSE v4.4.304.0
    4... Downloaded MSE v4.5.216.0 from M$ and tried to install it, But would not even start the install.
    Warning this operating system is not supported bla bla......
    5....Ran the reg hack from Tito, then tried to install MSE v4.5.216.0 again. This time it would install
    6.... BUT!! at the end of the complete install up pops that warning again and MSE turns RED!!

    Conclusion is that the hack from Tito has nothing to do with installing MSE on Windows XP. It is meant for POSReady 2009 only.

    Any comments or guidance for extracting the nice desktop theme from POSReady2009 and loading it onto an existing XP Pro?

    The theme looks similar to what I remember being the default look of XP Media Center, definitely looks better than the standard XP.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences. Appreciate it!

    Hmm, to be honest, I'm baffeled. ...'fix' did not work for oldsh t (XP 'reghack) or myself (Embedded POSReady 2009 / XP 'reghack') :dontgetit:
    Back to the drawing board. I want to find the reason. o_O

    Btw: Are you running Embbed POSReady 2009 eval or... ?

    Hmm, well same as me then... (Windows Embbed POSReady 2009, v2.0 SP3 / genuine key)

    Ok, lets recap. You did:

    1. Fresh install of the OS;
    2. Updated OS via M$ Update;
    3. Dl MSE 4.5.216.0 from M$ website
    4. Tried to install MSE but got the 0x8004FF04 error.
    5. Applied the 'fix'
    6. Installed MSE successfully. (MSE + updates work)

    Correct?

    ...appreciate your input!

    I always opt for a 'custom installation'. But, no, this 'problem' has nothing to do with the choosen options.

    Really a non-issue - I've got MSE (latest) program and definition updates working on my system. ;)

    I just want to find out the reason why, after applying the 'fix', the latest *via M$ dl* MSE installs but doesn't work while the older MSE (no need for the 'fix') updated to the latest version works flawless. :)
