    Welcome.

Ok, this is how it all works.

There are three things in this activation scheme:

SLIC 2.1 (which is a part of the bios, not the bios itself!) - This works with all Windows 7/2008R2 (and Vista/2008).
Certificate (MUST match the BIOS SLIC) - This works with Windows 7/2008R2 (and Vista/2008).
    - Neither of those are bound to a specific edition or x86/x64.

Key - Specific to the edition you want to use (but not the platform). If you use an OEM:SLP key (which is what you're doing really) it only requires that there IS a SLIC in the BIOS and that it matches the CERTIFICATE you installed. However the key and the cert/bios must not match each other. So if we talk about Windows 7 for instance, We can use the ASUS SLIC AND CERT but the HP or DELL key.

So when you say "I found an SLIC 2.1 for ASUS P5G41T-M LX2" then it's not just a SLIC, it's the whole BIOS. You must use a BIOS that is for your exact motherboard or it may or may not work. And with "not work" it usually means the motherboard won't boot. I don't know the similarity or not between the various ASUS motherboards to tell you if it will work or not but I wouldn't risk it.

@stesmi and @troels thank you for the response. It looks like I need to do some more research on this. Getting too tired to do it tonight but I greatly appreciate the quick responses.

Does this method work with the RTM now available? I haven't modded a BIOS before so I'm a little leery..

It is not surprising that it is possible in this way, because it is the same type of activation, as with all new MS-OS from Vista to Server 2008 R2. The only surprise is that it worked with a server 2008 R2 key; because it is known that for every OS version (edition) a special OEM-key exists. Which key (which version) did you use? SBE, Standard, Foundation, Enterprise? (Sorry for my bad English...)

    Hi Azimuth,

If you want to OEM activate WHS 2011, you'll need to wait till keys are leaked.
If you want to use some sort of loader to activate, check the Windows 7 section as the loaders are the same.
If you want to activate your VM try the Virtualization section, it has info for VMWare, VitualBox, Hyper-V and Virtual PC.

A little bit of reading go's along way in this forum.

Actually, all of those methods you listed require an OEM key to be leaked first.

A better way to call the chew method would be: "it will crack WHS2011 and SBE2011, and i believe WSSE2008 to let it think it is activated"
