    Hello,

I am trying to understand, how a Windows inside Hyper-V determines whether it is properly licensed. I have seen the "modding the Hyper-V bios" sticky, but would it also be possible, to eg. take a Win 8 license, install it in Hyper-V and do the free upgrade to Win 10. Would the Win 10 license remain valid, or does some identification of the virtual machine change?

What would happen if I cloned such a machine, and only ran one clone at a time (like a physical machine booting from different harddisks)? Would the license survive cloning?

If you use UNUSED Win 8 key, OR Win 7 Pro OEM key from a sticker (on some old machine!) you can do (still) W10 upgrade.
That will always work on this VM, as long as you use it. But if you delete it & re-create it (on same host), of coursse it will no longer work.

Also clone will not work, but a full copy should work
