    i know windows7 is good.
but i want a system that uses 250-300mb of resources, not 1giga.
mainly because i need all the resources for 3D modelling and animation renderings with x64 based apps.
so mainly i want a ''smaller'' OS.
i would of use linux but its not so compatible with my apps.

Well to be honest for that type of work i wouldn't recommend a notebook, but any way have you actually tried installing windows xp x64 to see what drivers are missing after install. As for windows 7 there are a lot of services e.c.t that can be turned off.

Forget your bios it should be ok. x64 and x86 have nothing to do with bios only thing needed for xp is acer string in dmi are and if this machine came with a version of windows you will be ok.

I installed XP x64 SP2 in my rig a few weeks ago.
It was a clean install & I had no problem at all.
If you need a special driver you may have to do as I did during the XP x64 testing & thats "decorate" your own using a 32Bit driver for that hardware, one only needs to change a couple of items in the .inf file (open in note pad).

the onlyy driver i cannot find is the ati mobility hd 4570, for my display.
it seems ati doesnt have a version for the win prof xp x64 system.
    only for 32.
i found a x64 version but on the AMD website.
my chipset is Intel, but i dont think it matters, because the gpu its one and the same.
