I have disabled Windows Automatic Maintenance (both tasks) and thumbnails are still being rebuilt. Microsoft sucks big time on this!
And I was thinking it is my HDD problem as I have formatted this HDD for more than 100 times. thanks for posting this issue. its really sucking. sometimes some folders take more than half a minute to open it. if any folder does not get opened in 5 sec then message comes "not responding" and hangs for more than half a minute and then folder gets opened.
I got Win8 on SSD so I don't think it's a disk issue. Maybe some people don't care about this as they use thumbnails just for some family photos, but I really like using thumbnails for other types of files especially for videos, pdfs and graphics programs.
Microsoft doesn't care, this problem is present in windows 7,8,8.1!...it doesn't matter if you have an hdd/ssd....or a nasa pc.
when I got this problem first time with windows 8 then I checked it with windows 7 on my same system installing alternatively but in windows 7 this was not the problem. when I talk about problem that means taking time to open any folder more than the time consumed in windows 7. sorry, but I do not agree with you if this problem was present with windows 7. in fact I faced this problem only with windows 8 and windows 8.1.
I thought that maybe I will try deleting ThumbnailExtractionHost.exe from System32 but that didn't do anything and my thumbnails were deleted again
