I am yet to try the Server 2008 enterprise. I have Dell PowerEdge 2800 with 2GB RAM. Willl it work? I want to use it for file sharing, proxy, web hosting...

Or is it good to switch to Ubuntu server edition. Please help me since I got MS Server Home edition 2003 version and it has become very slow these days. The license is expired long time back.

OK, so I installed Datacenter edition, but cannot find a key to use. Is there really no Datacenter SLP keys out there? If not, then I have to reinstall using Enterprise instead? I'm not even sure I need Datacenter, just thought WTH, might as well install the best one. Is there a way to "downgrade" to Enterprise on the fly?

 

Use KMS activation for Datacenter, works just fine

Yes, you can "donwgrade" by changing edition info in registry (I had a thread "enterprise to standard", use search)

Thanks Sebus. KMS activation was easy and successful. I just hope that it does not get changed by any updates. I prefer the simple SLP methods over hacks. I have a Dell SLIC 2.1 BIOS mod already, so the SLP key would have been ideal.

 

KMS is not a hack & it is most unlikely that could be changed without the whole system rewrite

dell key for ws08r2std is not activating ws08r2std anymore

and ws08r2ent is not activating ws08r2ent

What are you talking about?

Ofcourse that SLP OEM keys activate fine, that will never change

You have to have SLIC 2.1 + corresponding certificate for it to wotk

of course I have from time to time I activated WMs with these keys. now on activation I got error " 0xC004E003 " and explanation " The Software Licensing Service reported that license evaluation failed "...

product id has changed to : xxxx-OEM-8400691-20006 (for ent)

Hi, I'm looking for SLP key for windows server 2008 R2 datacenter. I searched the forum, but with no luck.
I found one suggestion to use KMS activation, but I prefer to use slic + slp key combination. Is KMS activation as good as slic+slp key combination?
