The Volume Licence versions of Vista use a different activation process to the OEM versions. Server 2008 is most probably the same. My MSDN sub doesn't cover Volume Licences so I can't check this. But both the MSDN Server 2008 images I have (32bit and 64bit) accept my MSDN keys and the OEM key.
yes but will they accept volume keys ? I just deleted the image earlier today but it was X14-27006 Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, Enterprise and Standard without Hyper-V (x86) - DVD (English) SHA128929bbec09cd5a624740b9b2adb08f165dd473 I also downloaded the x64 image X14-26714 Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, Enterprise and Standard (x64) - DVD (English) SHA1:bd000374709f67e9358814db6ec8f0ddaaa16f70 both are volume license versions, even though there is no mention of it. just check out the label of the disc. the installer refuses to accept the OEM key. says the key does not match any of the versions available on the disc.
I have intel orig "Intel DG33FB" mobo ....... any suggestions for activating win2k8 ent x64 (or std x64) on it.........
I also tried slmgr -ipk <product key> but it didnt help. --------------------------- Windows Script Host --------------------------- Run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xC004F015' to display the error text.Error: 0xC004F015 --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Event log: Installation of the Proof of Purchase failed. hr=0xC004F015 Partial Pkey=223PV ACID=15a581b4-f839-4d26-943c-b7e72f219849 Detailed Error[] So what gives ? I also tried uninstalling the key but then I couldnt logon anymore...
Sorry, I can't answer that, as I said my Sub dosen't inclued VLK's This is image I have been using. I can enter the OEM Key on install or via pid.txt. Thanks for this info, it could come in handy in the future. This might be a silly question, but are you sure your using the correct key ?
Yes, I opened the pid.txt inside '\sources' and pasted the key from the first post. To tell you the truth, I didnt test with the x64 version, thats the version you have there and youre telling me that it works so I guess maybe theres something about the x86 without hyper-v version. I just dont understand why it wouldnt work as both are volume license images and the keys should be valid for x64 and also x86. Well, now Ive got myself the x86 trial version from MS download center and it activates just fine.
@XcopyBR We know the Keys are interchangeable between x86 and x64 for the same SKU. But, could the 'without Hyper-V' versions be classed as a different SKU ? And therefore use different a CD Key ? Does that trial version have the same hash as the MSDN x86 version ?
It could be , as it definately wont accept OEM keys. About the trial image, no it has a different hash: SHA1= F3932932E41A0A29B11EB2E4AAD6AC7AC1BC565A
How different from the MSDN version to the Trail version from Microsoft site? If there's some different in the two version can someone pm me where i can find the MSDN version please? Thank a whole bunch.
@XcopyBR, Thanks for the info. There is a difference as they have different hashes. But I think you'll find its only a handful of files. The ones that deal with the 'Time Limit' There isn't any difference in the features or functions.
Sorry for my question, only to make clear the discussion because i don't understand: 1. Windows 2008 Trial Version is activable using OEM key and SLIC? 2. Windows 2008 Trial has time limit also using OEM key?
@1clicc Yes, the OS itself is the same. Server 2008 RTM build 18000. 6001.18000.080118-1840 @alex_voyager 1. YES. 2. Yes, but once you enter the OEM cert + SLIC the machine is permanently activated!
It does not work using Virtual PC/VMWare, as both of them use their own BIOS and not the one on your motherboard, so it won't get activated
I've the VPC exe inserted with SLP and SLIC. Vista Ultimate RTM and WinXP SP3 activated fine the last time I checked, which is like many months ago.
The BIOSes in VPC 2007 and VMware can be modded. Once it is modded, Server 2008 will activate. I have confirm this on both VPC 2007 and VMware.
