    Raise Funds

Just a thought, but what if we were to raise funds from donations to have someone get a basic server with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise? :D

Just a crazy thought, or is it ...

    Sorry for my awful ignorance:

    1) Slic in the Bios (after mod, of course) plus the proper key when installing and then the dig cert is what clicks the system to be activated? So SLIC DELL in BIOS (after MOD) and digital cert DELL is the recipe? (or HP, in other words matching pairs ?).

    What is token.dat?

I have the ISO of 2008 Standard and the ISO of Datacentre do I need to mod the token.dat or if I want either or just the SLIC mod bios ?

    I am confused.

    Thanks

you are not the only one, this all is very confusing and there seems to be no real understanding/guidance of how to setup a proper working .iso which is activated when installed.

many people post they managed to do so, but how? and what is required? what if you do not have a dell/hp system but a own system put together?

    questions questions questions...

ha! finaly someone with some clear answers. thank you i'm hoping this can bring the "newbies" hanging around a bit further and also should clean up all the newbie thread starts.

a simple how-to and everything would be finished and answered. thanks TheOneAndOnly + some others

awesome post, very clear and concise. Hopefully a mod will get that pinned up somewhere. I can't believe we don't have a Server 2008 Enterprise OEM key floating around, do OEM's not sell this sku??

Many thanks Mr OneAndOnly (sounds like Sony commercial to me), now it clicks in my grey cells.
Yeah, I understand Key functionality since the key computes a PID and then liberates the functions. This is like XP, WIN2K3 server, etc. And to me SLIC and certs is like SSL or VPN like with public and private keys, somehow.
I read a bit all the pages and someone was saying about WIN2K3 Enterprise R2, well if I can help, my old keygen still does the trick and provides that to WIN2K3 Ent if you have the right disks. I just did this Friday since my mail server went dead.
Ok, time for the next adventure..................clean the BIOS emulation and mod the machines. Any tricks so I do not have to re do all machines, I mean how do I clean the MBR and start fresh, I did not use Paradox but the DEVELOPER'S one.
    Thanks in advanced

O, yeah, I forgot to mention that I also have the MKS authentication server disk which is 7 gigs and used to be known as Melinda Gates server. Never tried it. My understanding is 180 days and then re certify over the network.Has to have a minimum of licences, etc, and that is also there and explained. Anyone has ever tried this?

KMS Server needs at least 25 registered computers to become active. Once it reaches that limit of unique computers it will start throwing down activations. However you need a valid KMS key to install on the server to activation copies of whatever you are using.

HSChronic. THANKS ! Yes the MKS I have came with instructions to modify some line of codes which makes it in a way that ALWAYS are 40 computers. So the KMS key is the key then. The 2008 Datacentre DVD I have is calles MRKS something and has got a key so suspect that would be the thing. Melinda Gates MKS is a VM Ware ready image so this should be sweet............maybe

Hi, just downloading the Server 2008 MSDN 12 in 1 not sure if you guys know what this is:

    1) Is this MKS only
    2) Can the OEM key help on this edition? Anyone knows?
    3) There is a text file with keys for everything but in the end could be blacklisted.

    Thanks

Thanks FreeSyler, so KMS is the only way, is MSDN intended for that purpose only ? MSDN is relatec to the Tech Net of MS and goes to developers, testers, etc, I think.
    Cheers

    FOR THEONEANDONLY, thanks mate !

Quick question for you, if you know, I can see that key enables fucntionality (standard, enterprise, etc) and then SLCI and CERT is like private key and public key in VPN and used to autenticate (in this case activate).
So there is something more (PID's ? perhaps ?). I have now the MSDN version and keys BUT is MSDN written for only activate with KMS ? If I use it, say put the Dell SLic in the BIOS, then install Server from MSDN disc, then command line to enter cert, then enter key and then -ato.........will this work ? Or yes or yes I do need an OEM server 2008 disc.............where can I pull one?, please? I could only get MSDN and genuine Enterprise yesterday. This second one has got 2 keys. One starts with Q9 and the other is the same that is in the MSDN starting with YQ (for enterprise) that I have seen here and suspect KMS.
    Thanks !

MSDN only provides MAK/KMS keys for activation. However, MSDN ISO's of 2008 server can be used with OEM keys, all you need is the right SLIC info in the bios and a Vista xrm-ms certificate file that is from the same OEM.

The One And Only, Digglife and Urie, good morning all and thanks to all of you !!!!

Ok, the MSDN ISO I have should then work. I noticed there are OEM folders in the ISO so I will try at some stage.

Thanks, The One And Only, tried the key checker. One is not good and the other is the MKS floating around............this is Enterprise. This Enterprise only original I took yesterday but one key is not good at all and the number is dated much after the ISO so I guess is not the "original". Mind due Clustering is the biggest difference between Standard and Enterprise and I do not have money to have the later so this would go ok.

You mentioned something about WIN 2K3 server, I am happy to put in rapid share the key gen. I run Enterprise R2 and that gen was gold and still is........................

Cheers and I better go back to my BBQ on charcoal.
