Also, instead of copying the files to the system32 folder, the better way to do it is to run a command prompt as administrator and run the batch file form the command line.

Install.cmd runs without error and indicates that it installed correctly but I'm getting "Application not found." after clicking on the desktop and selecting gadgets from the menu.

    which version?
did you maybe pick the wrong version?
did you run install.cmd as Admin?
I tried it in freshly installed enterprise 32bit and it worked perfectly fine
and so did the 64bit version

This is so weird. I'm using Windows 8 Pro RTM and when I copy the files over to System32 none of the files can be seen or used. :(

I used a cmd to do a listing of the files in the folder and it says 0 (I have show system and hidden files turned on).
What is weirder is when I try to put the files back into System32 is says that they are already there.

I ran install from within an elevated command window and now it installed correctly and is working. Thank you for your help; I am happy to get my favorite gadgets back in operation. I think Microsoft made a mistake in doing away with gadgets.

    I've successfully installed the Win7 Gadgets for Win8RTM 32bit,
but why is it possible that the folder containing the gadgets "C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\"
is INVISIBLE and how can I change that??

On windows explorer, go to tools > Folder Options > "View" tab and select "Show hidden files, folders and drives" option.

Thank you, but my file extensions are visible and the hidden items too.
It's the first thing I do after installation.

Works perfect for me on Win 8 64 Ent, even the 2 desktop context menus for gadgets with little icons next to text appears.
