and Bill Gates bought a variant of CP/M from Seattle Computer to run on IBM computers which became MS Dos and the rest is history.
Small correction: it wasn't MS-DOS at that time, since MS-DOS did branch from PC-DOS on June '82. PC-DOS' predecessor was 86-DOS (previously known as QDOS), was developed by Seattle Computer Products and was sold to Microsoft later. Windows 1.0 was released on November '85 after being in development for four years (Interface Manager).
Sorry, you're wrong! Microsoft was bought 86DOS from Seattle Computer in May 1981 for USD 75.000 from Tim Paterson while already working on it's own Disk Operating System, special for the 8086 computers. That was not on the end '79 or beginning of the '80 as I wrote in my post before, sorry for that! Microsoft than implemented that to IBM as the DOS for the IBM-PC's and the IBM 5150 already as MS-DOS 1.10/1.14 which were than 'renamed' by IBM to PC-DOS 1.0 in August 1981 Simple fact is that IBM was licensing MS-DOS 1.10/1.14 from Microsoft and delivered it starting in August 1981 as PC-DOS 1.0 with their IBM-PC's and the IBM 5150. After that Microsoft and IBM 'adjusted' those DOS'es on different ways which were lead to seperate Microsoft and IBM a few years later in the further development of MS-DOS and PC-DOS. Still from Day One, PC-DOS from IBM were notheing else than just an Re-Branded MS-DOS and never the opposite!
That was 86-DOS from Tim Paterson which ended up top be bought by Bill Gates for Microsoft for USD 75.000! MS was keeping trhe Version Numer 1.10 for the first release of the MS-DOS which were later licensed to IBM as 1.14 which IBM called PC-DOS 1.0. I had to read a bit to refresh my memory, sorry for to be a bit wrong on my first post about that.
MS originally purchased a non-exclusive license for 86-dos in December 1980 for $25,000 It later purchased all rights in July 1981 for $50,000 additional. Everything that arseny92 said was technically accurate.
hi my pc is; disk: ocz vertex 4 mbo: GA-MA790FX-DS5 cpu: AMD Phenom 9750 gpu: Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 Ultimate Edition os: windows 8.1 Pro and i cant install win 10 i'm only getting windows logo with circle animation, can i make something to fix this i have try boot from vhd and from usb flash drive
ok 86Dos was a variant of CP/M. it was 50,000 not 75,000. and there was a slight difference between PC-Dos and MS-Dos, hence the reason IBM kept possession when they and MS had their big breakup. my point being is that Gates, although being a multi billionaire, never created anything. and if it wasn't for IBM he'd be nothing but a footnote in history, and we wouldn't be dealing with Windows 10.
sorry! it's hard to tell what your problem is with that information. if you read through the thread you can see how hard it can be to diagnose a problem without the physical computer. i have this problem all the time with friends and relatives calling on the phone and saying this happened and can you tell me what to do. some problems are easy some problems are hard. sorry i could't help, but maybe someone else is willing to give it a shot.
Look at Post #228 use the link to open that website and read! Although read the Agenda of Bill Gates, special from the time he started up his first company and with whom he were working. As and sidenote: The real inventor of Apple Computer were Steve Wozinak who were buils the Apple 1, the first Apple Computer. Steve Jobs even didn't invented any OS, which were (and is) simply an mofdified Unix or any hardware on it's oen AFAIK, he just had the (good) ideas and a feeling what the people were looking for. The Apple Company were near bankrupcy as SJ had the Idea to sell "Eye Candies", the first were the first iMac. All of that infos are freely available on the Internet.
