The diagram relates to Windows Embedded Standard 7 products. There is a difference in activation methodology between the RC Windows Thin PC and OSs produced using the Windows Embedded Standard 7 IBW and ICE, even though WinTPC was developed on the WES system. WinTCP is a SA benefit and expected to be activated in an organization by a KMS or MAK product key method. Obviously, when thin clients operate they need to be connected to application servers. As the diagram shows, WES7 embedded systems are expected to be activated in the "manufacturing process" before being cloned and deployed, perhaps on stand-alone systems which may never have any networked connectivity. In such isolated conditions MAK or KMS would not be sustainable, as contact with the license server is required periodically.
i'm not able to find it on TechNet and i'm not registered there either-- so can someone just post a link to this??? that'd be great thanks in advance
@ fafhrd I would think it'd carry over. MS did say they would ship Thin PC to OEM's so it'd be a little odd not to support a quick and easy activation method (Volume:BA) In the video it said: The above quote makes me think if OEM SLP will be used in Windows 8 and if it will use the BIOS marker I guess if Thin PC doesn't support Volume:BA then it won't get any support from me.
i'm logged in and i don't see it anywhere, so someone just please post the technet link to it and i'll go from there... thanks
Just to confirm, I finished the download link I posted earlier and it matches the MSDN hash. If you hit a timeout when starting the download, try using 122.194.5.154:80 as proxy. Even works using multiple simultaneous connections The only key types listed in pkeyconfig are: Retail, Retail:TB:Eval, Volume:GVLK and Volume:MAK; so no OEM, no Volume:BA.
nevermind, i'm not a msdn subscriber; i'm guessing that costs money... someone post a working, english hosted site link, please... i neeeeed this
I had that problem too. I switched from IE9 To Firefox and it downloaded ok. Choose the left side arrow down button.
yeah i'm running firefox as well, and i've clicked that thing a bunch and nada. bottom of the browser says "javascriptvoid(0)" so it's not on my end but on the website i think...
Cool, didn't know there's an eval as well. I'm gonna check if it's different from the MSDN release later and post a diff if it is.
Based on feedback received, Microsoft has decided to add the following additional features in the RTM: Key Management Server (KMS)/Multiple Activation Key (MAK): WinTPC will now be able to activate against a customer’s existing KMS server or use MAK keys, which enables quick and easy activation mechanisms that customers already use for their Windows desktops today. Keyboard Filter: WinTPC will have the capability to allow customers to lock certain key combinations, such as Ctrl +Alt + Delete, from being utilized and taking effect on a Windows Thin PC device, thereby providing customers with greater level of security and control over user interaction with their WinTPCs. International IMEs (Input Method Editor) support: WinTPC will now include the option to support international keyboards.
