Like many people, for me the East Asian site is effectively unavailable. The RC evaluation trial of Windows Thin PC (ThinPC_110415_EVAL_x86fre.iso) activated using the method posted by oizoioi at: forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/26314-Windows-Thin-PC-activation?p=455869&viewfull=1#post455869 and wim - imaged clones remain activated, at least when installed on different partitions on the same machine. @Daz I think Microsoft is using WinTPC to fill a gap - remember Windows "Steady State" which was quashed last year - WinTCP fills that function, as well as the stated objective: From Ambidav's link (where the above iso is still available for download): It seems that the Thin PC version currently being released is an interim issue in order to gain momentum for OEM partners to sell value-added Thin Clients tailored using the Windows Embedded Standard 7 toolkit. The hook is for SA partners who can deploy Thin PC on repurposed systems (i.e. older kit which is already licensed within the SA scheme, running mainly XP, but also Vista and even legacy Win2k), for no additional cost within the current licensing terms. In effect, a free upgrade to Windows 7, albeit a limited version. At the end of use for these machines, they are expected to be replaced by purpose built thin clients running Windows Embedded through the OEM channel. What I am not totally sure about is what is meant by "OEM" channel with regard to Embedded Systems-it includes those involved with automotive controls, phones, GPS, Set-Top boxes, Point Of Service sales registers, medical instrumentation etc., as well as "dumb terminal" client workstations, PDAs, Netbooks, and touch pads. The core businesses are different from the PC OEM marketplace. This is actually a huge market, larger than the PC manufacturing base, and MS is keen to make up any lost ground where Google and Apple have taken advantage of getting their products out first. I would not be surprised if Windows 9 was totally componentized, with a basic core set of features, with more advanced and specialized components being downloadable at additional cost as and when required. I think it's too late as far as Windows 8 is concerned, but I may be wrong... The WES7 evaluation licences are classed as RETAIL channel as the following mgadiag extract for a WES7Sp1 build with a 365 day educational evaluation key shows: Code: Licensing Data--> Software licensing service version: 6.1.7600.16385 Name: Windows(R) 7, Embedded edition Description: Windows Operating System - Windows(R) 7, RETAIL channel It is also "Retail" with a 180-day trial key, and with a 30-day evaluation obtained without entering a key. I would be interested to see if the channel type changes with a full OEM product key. No doubt one will be leaked soon enough. Whereas the Thin PC has a VOLUME MAK channel license: Code: Licensing Data--> Software licensing service version: 6.1.7600.16385 Name: Windows(R) 7, Embedded edition Description: Windows Operating System - Windows(R) 7, VOLUME_MAK channel Before full activation it was: Code: Description: Windows Operating System - Windows(R) 7, TIMEBASED_EVAL channel This fits with what 100 reported earlier. 100's XDelta3 diff: forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/27719-Windows-Thin-PC-(WinTPC)-Download-link?p=457494&viewfull=1#post457494 works fine, and activates with MAK key no problem. Has anybody used KMS on TPC here yet?
