I am talking about the enterprise version. Not the Pro.

I was getting problems with my Windows To Go USB3 HDD as I connected to an computer with USB2. It would start, install some needed Drivers and while rebooting hangs! I plan to install as 32 bit on an 2. HDD for to see it's a problem it's a problem of 64bit. And than try again on USB2.

The HDD I use is an Acer 500GB USB 3.0 and the internal HDD is an WD HD. The nexct one will be a normal SATA2 Hitatchi 320GB in an 3.party USB 3.0 external Case. If that works I'll try the same in an USB 2.0 external case.

    To the OP:
Did you use an USB 3.0 external Storage or USB 2.0?

    Hi All

I have a fully working WTG ....backed up the image...and restored to a new USB 3.0 stick.

This works fine in the USB 2.0 slot...and the image is as it was...but when trying to boot from usb 3.0 slot...its erroring (obviously as it has no USB 3.0 driver for the boot)

Is there a way to slip those drivers into my running stick (either while booted in stick...or by booting Win7 and stick in usb 2 or usb 3 slot?)

I would hate to have to re-create my workspace again... :(
    Thanks all.

I created another W2G flash drive yesterday on a SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 (16GB) that I got on eBay.
Creating the W2G files was fast but as above my PC wont boot to it when I have it plugged into the USB 3.0 port, its a bit slower (I suppose) plugged into the USB 2.0 port but works very nice still

I think Windows will only Boot from USB 3.0 if it is native USB 3.0 On Mainboard and not by Expansion Card.
Or maybe if the Card has an BIOS which allows to boot from.

Thank you VelleX for the reminder.

Its a ASUS P8P67 Pro board w/ native USB 3.0, someone @ the ASUS forum suggested upgrading my BIOS awhile back too.
I had already tried updating the USB 3.0 controller (no joy) but not the BIOS yet, thats probably what I need to do then.

Works with Add On Card well too! I've in one computer USB 3.0 as PCI-E Card but on board! Windows To Go also works with USB 2.0 but fast, it's quite slow! Have tested on an few machines.

Mine is 2.0 & using this feature. Today's most BIOS are capable of booting form USB. Speed is the only limitation of 2.0

Maybe my Computer/Mainboard is too old.
Of course i can boot from USB, but not from my PCI Express USB 3.0 Card.

I was using a USB 3.0 Flash Drive stick. Windows 32-bit works fine on machines that has USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports. But for the 64-bit, it would have problems booting. I believe it has something wrong with the 64-bit OS. I am talking about the 64-bit Enterprise version and not the Pro version.

For what its worth, I installed WTG on an old 1TB usb2 external drive and it boot fine, ran much faster than most Linux Live cd's. Also, if you really are going to use it as a WTG and on several machines, make it a 32bit WTG not a 64bit. During my attempts with it, I found that a 64bit WTG will not run on a 32bit host system. So point the installation to a 32bit iso. IMHO it would be the most versatile.

I need the 64-bit to work since some machines we have here has more than 4GB of RAM.

I believe it would still work. You wouldn't make use of all of the ram., is all. But if everything you will use WTG for is 64bit, it makes sense to use 64bit yup

    The machine I have is a Vostro v131 Dell Laptop.. with native 1 x usb 2.0 and 2 x usb 3.0

They are native and not expansion...and enabled as bootable.
As I have said.. it tries to boot...but errors...and fails.

Right now.. I have a working USB 3.0 stick...with the WTG 64 Enterprise source.

It will only boot when plugged into the USB 2.0 port...and works slow.

When plugged into the usb 3.0 port (again...its a Dell V131 Vostro with native USB 3.0 ports) ...it tries to boot...but then fails.

I have tried rebuilding...and adding the usb 3.0 drivers manually into the boot.wim

    Either way...its just failing.
plug back to usb 2.0 port...and boots ok (but slow)

    Anyone????

Has anyone got a working vanila USB 3.0 working WTG??? With it setup fresh... (I would then ask to copy the img to my stick)

    Thanks

USB 3.0 & W2G work on my Lenovo W510 Laptop but not on my ASUS P8P67 Pro (MB) Desktop (older BIOS), same problem as you on that one.

Are you sure that the USB 3.0 Stick is supported? Many are don not! And also the question is about the USB 3.0 Chipset. I didn't have a problem in my Acer Aspire 4752G! Also on the Desktop with ASRock Fatal1ti Professional Mainbord the WTG works well. I use an Acer 500GB AH022S USB 3.0 external HDD. I tested some Apacer Stkc's (16 & 32 GB) they didn't work, incompatible.

    HI,

I have been using Windows To Go for sometime without any (real) issue, except for one:
Mine is installed on an HDD mounted in a USB3(2)/ESATA enclosure, so it enables me to choose which connection i want to use at any moment (depending the host system)

Now the problem i am having is when i connect my external (hdd) device via ESATA. Windows To Go doesn't like it when it's booting from ESATA (all others: USB 3 or 2 are fine)
I think i recognizes it as a regular connected HDD, and so it want boot all the way.

Does anyone know a solution for this?
