Even with the sha-2 update it doesn't do jack, so what one must do now is to resort to wsus offline solutions or use WUMT in offline mode with WSUSSCN2.cab
What's the meaning of "doesn't do jack"? I would like to know what about Server 2008 and where WUMT download link is. One more, is Windows Ultimate Extras available by using WUMT?
are you kidding me ?! you have updated with WUMT !!! On Windows Update there are only historical updates ... You have to show me the page where you download the updates as I showed ... But do you think people are stupid ?!
For Windows Update to work on Windows 2000, you had to: - install IE6 - install WU agent - IE6: reset the security level of all zones to their defaults - IE6: In Advanced settings -> Security, disable SSL 2.0 and enable both SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0.
I already tried to update Windows Vista in the following ways: Via Windows Update: fails when checking for updates. Via WUMT (Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.256 must be installed, otherwise it gives an error when opening): it gives an error when checking for updates. Try downloading the updates that are for Windows Server 2008 (KB4474419 and KB4493730) and installing them on Vista, Windows Update and WUMT still fails when checking for updates. The last method I tried was to use the WUMT offline mode, and while it checks for updates, after several minutes it reports that no updates are available (assuming my system is not up to date, being that I have a fresh install of Vista SP2 RTM ).
You still need to install the vista "windows update speed-up" patches or else WUMT might never show any update and your cpu will be constantly using 100% of one core. Those are KB4019204 KB4012583 KB3205638 KB4015380 and if you have IE9 already installed KB4018271 Search for them on microsoft catalog and install them. Reboot and try again.
sorry guys... but until 2017 it worked perfectly ... from July 2017 it was enough to activate TLS 1.0, I never did it because I have a Windows 2000 with all the updates integrated ... and therefore I have not investigated the problem ... now works. there is no need to do this:
I have a version of WSUSSCN2.CAB from March 2019 File: WSUSSCN2.CAB CRC-32: 47e733b7 MD4: ef5e53cbb572c52804aa64cf4dd37fdb MD5: d114e6be5f2f89efafefb72ac93f628f SHA-1: 2aa0c424df9881e71f490c4dcf7f729b0d2cca2e Size: 515 MB (540,147,276 bytes) I know it isnt the latest version but I don't think XP had any updates released after this did it?
@pottzman Last POSReady 2009 update was in May 2019 someone @ msfn.org posted wsusscn2_sha1.cab from July 2020, which apparently the last one digital signed with SHA1
Okay I have just used the WSUSSCN2.CAB from 14th July 2020 and the version I have from March 2019 with a fresh install of Windows XP in a virtual machine. I used WUMT with each WSUSSCN2.CAB file in "offline mode" and the result is the same it finds 126 updates. I realise this has not been setup for POSReady updates but just to confirm if you don't need POSReady updates then you dont need the latest WSUSSCN2.CAB that is almost double the size of the March 2019 one. On another note: does anyone know how to use WUMT to install the "additional" updates that were not considered "critical" or "recommended"? stuff like Windows Media Player 11, dotnet frameworks etc. they dont seem to show up in WUMT.
