Windows update manager only searches for updates it does nto install them, if you want them to get installed you need to check the ckeckboxes and press the install button
I was referring to only the WD definition updates which I thought would be automatically installed because of the Tools - Defender Update - Create Definition Update Task function.
Since people were asking for some help files, is anyone here willing to help me write a nice documentation?
start wumgr from a cmd window than it will log a log to the console window, please post that data so i can pinpoint the problem
I couldn't find the log but I saw these inside the prompt windows. PROMPT NOT RUNNING AS ADMIN: Trying to get admin privileges... Trying to start with 'runas'... LOG: Update Manager for Windows, Version v0.8g by David Xanatos LOG: This Tool is Open Source under the GNU General Public License, Version 3 LOG: Trying to SkipUAC ... It waited a while in the last step then went back to prompt. PROMPT RUNNING AS ADMIN: Update Services: DCat Flighting Prod: 8b24b027-1dee-babb-9a95-3517dfb9c552 Windows Store (DCat Prod): 855e8a7c-ecb4-4ca3-b045-1dfa50104289 Windows Update: 9482f4b4-e343-43b6-b170-9a65bc822c77 Unhandled Exception: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: InvalidArgument=Value of '90' is not valid for 'SelectedIndex'. Parameter name: SelectedIndex at System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.set_SelectedIndex(Int32 value) at wumgr.WuMgr..ctor() at wumgr.Program.Main(String[] args) The prompt jus kept on blinking after the last step. I notice the wumgr.ini is always 0KB.
Thank you for this WUMT succesor. Would appreaciate when the messagebar at the bottom of the program would be sizeable. Thanks again.
Hello again. Is the program not saving its window size and location? I notice it because every time I open the program, I have to change its size again. This doesn't happen to my other programs.
My WU Settings page is blank again. Now, I know what has happened. It has to do with Windows Update Manager, indeed. When I choose Disable Automatic Update but DO NOT tick the Hide WU Settings Page, the WU Settings Page still comes out showing a blank after reboot. Is this how it's supposed to be? I am running Home 1803 Build 17134.376. Using WU Manager v0.8h.
yes, this is how its suppose to be, Your WU settings page may also crash randomly, this is why Always tick Hide WU settings page. that way you wont face any problems, (btw by default tool should force hide wu page setting)
Thank you for the information. Now I know the blank page does not mean something is broken somewhere.
1) Although the Hide WU Settings Page box is ticked, the page still comes out showing a blank after reboot. I think that's what got me confused before when I was trying to isolate the cause of the blank page. 2) In the upper portion of Auto Update tab, I can only choose either Disable AU or AU (default). The Block Access to WU Servers, Disable Update Facilitators, Notification Only, Download Only, and Scheduled Installation are all grey out. When are they available for ticking? 3) Just to verify. The Automatic Update above means it is solely executed and controlled by the program and NOT Windows 10, right?
I also set my connection to metered before. The problem with that setup is Windows cannot download things that it thinks your system needs but are also large. This may not always be OS updates. In my case, I remember it was trying to get a language pack in the background. It couldn't, so it kept notifying me something was wrong. Because it was auto downloading or updating the language and not initiated by me, it took me a long while to figure out what the issue was. I have stopped using that technique.
