I'm sure this was asked before, but I searched through at least 20 pages of the thread, and didn't see the answer. The MiniTool gives choices for "Update service", with: 1) Microsoft Update 2) Windows Store 3) Windows Store (Dcat Prod) 4) Windows Update I have two questions: 1) Does this change where MiniTool searches for updates, or does it change which service Windows will use to search (i.e. I think default windows search is Windows Update, but when installing Office (or clicking "Give me updates for other MS products") it changes over to Microsoft Update. 2) Is there any difference; any reason to choose one over the other? Thanks, and sorry if this was previously discussed.
No, it's exactly the same as WU downloads, they are express dynamic components which are system-specific
1) Yes WU gives the regular windows updates MU gives extra microsoft products updates Store (Dcat Prod) is for the upgrade builds (insider) Store is for store apps, not useable and won't give any results the default service will be selected, either WU or MU Dcat Prod should be used only if you are and insider (or if they released future public feature upgrades)
For using offline mode how often does the wsusscn2.cab file need to be downloaded? Does Microsoft put up new versions of that file regularly or is it download once and you're set to go type deal?
Can this be used to downloaded updates ONCE {save capped bandwidth} and deployed to several machines on the LAN?
Guys! just to report my experience: for several reasons I preferred to stay on 10240 W10 Pro build, avoiding 1511 update thru WUMT, well now Win Update acts like I had a Win enterprise build, searching for LTS Branch only LoL!!
I've installed GeForce 8400GS as a temporal test graphic card, but even though I've installed GTX 980 again, WU MiniTool keeps offering me GeForce 8400GS driver for some bizarre reason. Why is it doing this and how can I reset the damn thing? The 8400GS is not in the damn system anymore. Stop offering me this thing. Now I know it's most likely the WU framework itself that's doing this, but anyone has any idea how to reset this thing so it'll stop detecting this 8400GS graphic card that's no longer in the system?
You may have a ghosted entry in the Device Manager. In the Device Manager choose View>Show hidden devices. Then go look under Display adapters. If the unwanted device is listed here, search the Web on how to remove ghosted devices in Device Manager. I did this a few years ago and cannot remember the exact procedure to remove a ghosted device.
A friend of mine had set "Give me updates for other MS products" and it stopped the update on one of his computers with Office 2010 but not the one with Office 2003. Next time it was the opposit. Last time one computer was stuck att 10585.70 for a long time while the other was correctly at 10585.164. A lot of updates was downloaded but not installed. When he cleared the "Give me updates for other MS products" setting it started installation to .164.
