Win 10, Win 11 ? What supposed to be the point of using WUMT there? They have monthly CUMULATIVE updates. Either install them or not...
I have had numerous times in the past where windows updated caused problem. I now turn off auto update and don't install the updates until they are reported as safe to install on AskWoody.com. WUMT allows me to pick and choose which updates to install and when to install them.
Obviously. Being practically the only kind of available updates. If you have a problem, it's because a CU (with rare exceptions) I still dont' understand what WUMT does here, you have no choice other than install the update or not. The same thing as deciding if downloading the MSU or not. The only value we have here is provided by Winarotweaker, not by WUMT.
For March I ran WUMT. There were 4 updates. 1 I didn't' want to install. I hid it. The other 3 I installed. When I am comfortable with the 1 I hid, I will unhide it and install it. This gives me total control over which updates I install and when.
Unfortunately, this didn't work. WinareoTweaker "kills" the windows update service which prevents WUMT from working. Oh well...
That is the whole point, to stop the service. Otherwise W.update will enforce some updates. That should not be a problem for you since you can inactivate and deactivate anything related to W.update with WUB. So, why is that a problem?
I want to use WUMT. If I disable the service then WUMT doesn't work for me. I am unable to set any settings. They are greyed out. My undrestanding of WUMT is that the windows update service can not be disabled. It has to be enabled in order for WUIMT to search for and download updates.
The way you handle it with the 2 of me mentioned programs is - when you want to search with WUMT, activate W.update and its service with WUB. When you dont search and dont want W.update to install anything without your knowledge, deactivate W.update with WUB. That is how i have used it for a long time and it works. One thing though, sometimes one has to restart the pc after an activation of WUB to get W.update to function properly. Other then that it works as mentioned above.
Doesn't that open the possibility that Windows Update might run before you have a chance to run WUMT and disable the windows update service again?
That is why you do the mentioned action one after the other, besides the fact that WUMT should be set to - Disabled. If you do it that way, no problems arise because WUMT takes precedence over W.update. That is the whole point with WUMT. And, WUB lets definition updates pass by for Ms Defender even when it is set to inactivate W.update.
OK. I'll give this a try for next month's patch Tuesday. Thanks for you patience in explaining this to me.
When you shall look for updates, open WUB without clicking anything so it will be placed in the Task field, then do the same with WUMT and see to it that it is set to Disabled, now you have them nicely ready for your actions. Then activate W.update with WUB, and when that is executed jump directly to WUMT and search for updates. Smooth and under control.
Windows Update MiniTool does not work correct on Win11 Iot Enterprise LTSC even i check from the search settings the automatic updates -> Disabled when i go on Windows Settings-> Windows Update -> the check for updates is active and not disabled also in advanced options-> configured update policies -> it shows there the policies i set but even that as i said above the check for updates is active has anyone have the same problem? thanks
