Thanks, though you should thank Jean Sebastien Carle, because he made the program, I just provide the updated update lists on his website. As for your questions:- 1) Yes I manually remove any superseded updates from the lists, be it Win7 or 8.1 Update. 2) I never noticed this before, but I think it's needed if you want WUD to check updates in the list, so when it downloads updates, and if one of those updates refuses to download, then the whole list is deleted by WUD!
My question was: Well steven4554 I was not to sure of you answer you gave to this question, so I did some practice runs using last months updates and this months updates on Win7. I had set up 2 folders and just named them 1 & 2. Then I downloaded Last months updates twice, once into Folder 1 and the second time into folder 2. So then I downloaded this months updates using the option "Remove Unlisted files" to folder 2. Now I had something to compare. I opened both folders side by side and visually compared file by file to see what was new in folder 2 and missing in folder 1, and copied down all the KB numbers accordingly. I was more concerned with the KB numbers that were in folder 1 and no longer appeared in folder 2. With those KB numbers I went to M$ update catalog to check them out and sure enough they were all replace by newer updates that were now in folder 2. Example: NetFrame NEW (in folder 2) KB2894844 KB2898851 KB2931356 NetFrame (in folder 1 that are not in folder 2 now) KB2901112 This update has been replaced by the following updates: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 SP1 x86 (KB2931356) So my conclusion is that if you use the option "Remove Unlisted files" This will remove the superseded updates in your downloaded update folder. Now I think this is just great!! I will always have all the up-to-date updates at had for the next format. Saves me a lot of time. And the speed of this program is just unbelievable. I downloaded 176 updates in less than 3 min. Your never going to get that from M$. My hats off to you and Jean Sebastien Carle
Thanks for the praise, and I'll be sure to pass on your comments to Jean I always check when new updates are released and to see if they supersede any old update, though sometimes I do make mistakes, especially with the Win7 lists (MS could be more helpful in releasing SP2 or a update rollup, than updating a version of Windows that has less than 15% of users!) but I do my best not to make as many errors, and of course I'm willing to amend mistakes reported by members here and on MSFN
Never worry about small mistakes. I found one in the last months "Critical Updates" that was fixed in this months updates. It's such a small mistake that it's not even worth mentioning. I know the work you are doing is very time consuming and tricky, and mistakes can be made. I have been doing just what your doing and I know what your going through. And I was only doing it on XP. I'm old and I am slow but I got through it. Using this WUD just made my life a whole lot better Again I thank you both Don't tell Jean, but I think your doing the hardest part.
The updates in the security, non-security, .NET 3.5.1 and WMP12 sections of the list can be used on any language version of Windows 7 SP1.
@steven4554 hi thanks for this,i have question, i am running in windows 8.1 update1 so your wud file is for windows 8.1 update1? and this update is for me to install? "kb2919355"
Windows Update may list that KB2919355 update again, cause there is a small update that fixes bugs in Win8.1 Update, but it does not reinstall Update 1 again, just the small patch that MS has released recently.
Thanks Steven! Just brilliant. After struggling with Windows Update Catalog (my GOD isn't that a mess - so laborious). I was simply left dumbfounded as to the speed of this. 180 downloads would have taken me an age to download. My connection isn't very fast, and yet there they all were in 20 mins (a whole GIG too). I edited the install.wim of my Windows 7 setup files aaaaand - profit. So.... I'll just get in line shall I? Cheers. "We're not worthy! We're not worthy"
Thanks very much Tito. Was looking for something like this. To know you can install to a live system is good too.
Yes I know, I have sent him this month's set of update lists, so he can update his website. But last I heard, he is being swamped with work at the moment.
Glad to help you dodge the havoc caused by MS, back then, and that KB2834140-v2 is still in my ULZ's. I cannot confirm if the update fixes the problems described by MS, as I currently use a AMD chipset mobo with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 550Ti Graphics card.
No problem Steven I believe my assumption is correct and that the issues caused by KB2670838 did not affect my case in first place. I mean, the Onboard VGA setting in BIOS says: Code: Enables or disables the onboard VGA function. 1) Enable If No Ext PEG Activates the onboard VGA only if no PCI Express VGA card is installed. (Default) 2) Always Enable Always activates the onboard VGA, whether or not a PCI Express card is installed. If you wish to set up a dual view configuration, set this item to Always Enable I have mine set to "Enable If No Ext PEG". In Windows / Device Manager, only the ATI 6670 shows up under Display Adapters. So in my case I shouldn't have any conflicts with KB2670838, right? (If I install that, I will of course also install KB2834140 - just in case)
