Seems I've really messed it up now. I enabled automatic updates, don't think that was a good idea. I can restore the settings to Genuine, but when rebooting the system I get the error msg. about invalid XP again and the Genuine has been replace with VLK error. Ethernet is disconnected, so the problem is resident on the machine. I have installed a fresh copy of XP on the same volume, but is there any easy way that software and data may be transferred? I don't think so, but is there anything I can do to repair the system? Or will I have to reinstall everything again under the new system, and export/import email data? Guess it is possible, but I shudder at the thought, believe that will be a lot of work. Win2k has an option for repair of system but that feature seems to be missing from XP.
