Are there services responsible for checking if windows in geniune?

I used a bios mod to register windows 7, in the system about screen it shows 'Windows is activated'.

My problem is randomly, maybe like once every 5-7 days or so, a message pops up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen saying this copy of windows in not genuine. As soon as I go back into the System about screen, the registration information takes a second longer to display then the rest of the screen, but when it pops up saying windows is activated, the message in the bottom right corner disappears.

I've done heavy tweaking of my system services, so I'm thinking I might of disabled one that is responsible for fetching that information before the watermark displays?

Run "services.msc" to open the Microsoft Management Console services snap-in. Then verify that the startup type for "Software Protection" is set to "Automatic (Delayed Start)", and then verify that the startup type for "SPP Notification Service" is set to "Manual".
