    Which SLP string have you got?

    No matter what, 2411858C should be the best choice.

    1.ASUSTeK.CMD will do it for you, no worries

    2.To remove Starter restrictions, Use ERD 2008 to change the registry value.

    from

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Starter]
    "Installed"=dword:00000001

    to

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Starter]
    "Installed"=dword:00000000

    Thus, it turns to be a Slim-Home Edition in Starter infrastructure.

    This method can be applied to those computers unsupported by Starter.

    Good luck. And thank you again for your ftp server.

    xinso,

    thanks again.

    one more question.

    is there any difference between your tool and by inserting oemfiles and slp home key the starter cd.

    i tried asus oemfiles and a home key. it activated but shows xp home instead of starter edition.

    Because you use Home keyset, there's no such registry

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Starter]
    "Installed"=dword:00000001

    the setup process (T29) won't install Starter Components, therefore, you'll get a normal Home Edition down the track.

    If you want this way to be a success, I think that those old articles about manually install MCE Components would be helpful to you

    xinso,

    i changed the registry key to

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Starter]
    "Installed"=dword:00000000

    become more worst. start safe mode with same message.

    Later will clean re-install, try change the key again, see how it works.

    thanks again

    "safe mode with same message" means the key value was not changed successfully.

    The value could be changed only from other system, like ERD 2008.

    So, you need to get an ERD 2008 CD, then boot with this CD, and change the key successfully.

    Or, from other system on different partition of the same computer where the Starter system is.

    no luck

    what i did
    -clean install starter edition
    -start pc with erd 2008 cd
    -change registry key to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Starter] "Installed"=dword:00000000
    -apply your tool (need to edit your file from regedit to erdregedit)
    -restart pc

    same error message

    it starts up with no problem after fresh install, should not be any hardware issue.

    pc specification
    Mobo ASUS F3B-F
    CPU P3-500
    memory PC-133 512MB
