Folks...I downloaded it from Rapidshare last night...had it in less than an hour. Just Google "Windows 7 6936 x64 Rapidshare." Found some links on a blog fairly quickly. Don't click on the actual Website; instead use the Google cached version...I have more success finding links that way. Overall, the build seems to be a bit flaky to me.
Good description - There are programs I could not install in 6956 that I could in 6936, just as I could in 6801. I've been using it for a couple of days, no problems. Got rid of the "Send Feedback" and watermark, cannot get a time bomb eraser to work. I hope the public beta has a 64 bit version.
Microsoft had 32 and 64bit versions of Vista and Server 2008 Betas. So I'd be very surprised if both weren't available for Windows Seven. Especially if the rumours are ture about Windows Seven being the last 32/64bit OS from Microsoft.
Thanks ZaForD, I never paid any attention to the 64 bit versions until several months ago when I got Vista Ultimate 64 - now I believe it is that way to go.
It's generally acknowledged (and benchmarks seem to bear it out) that the x64 versions deliver somewhere between a 10-15% increase in performance over the x86 version. I had a link to some benchmarks, but can't seem to remember where I saw them. Only XP x64 was faster than Server 2008 x64. After Windows 7, I doubt that will be the case.
I was happy w/Vista 64, so went that route w/Win7. I have read where 32 bit programs may run a little slower on a 64 bit system, as well as lots of other data. In the end, it is my machine and my comfort level that matter most. Time marches on and technology changes. My 1955 Ford was way cool cuz it have a rear radio speaker and a switch under the dash - Front - Rear - Both My 2006 SUV has a "6-in-dash-CD-changer"
