    If it takes an hour, you're probably copying at USB 1.1 speeds. Is it an older system? Or maybe your BIOS doesn't properly "recognize" the USB (had that with a brand new USB stick recently). In that case, try another one.
    "Rufus" is another nice tool for bootable USB thumbdrives!! It's small, fast, free.
    Google for "Rufus UBS". (No, I didn't make it myself).

    It may be the reason (USB 1.1) pretty old system. Maybe USB 2 Speeds only work in windows.

    Why rufus may be different on this? regarding the speeds?

    If you copy at 1.1 speed, Rufus won't help much.
    But Rufus is one of the fastest around (when testing on similar systems with USB 2.0).
    But of course, this is the WinUSB maker thread, so I'm not trying to "steal" the attention here, just trying to give you some options.
    How old is that system? I have a lot of old PC's as well (almost like a mini museum), adding a USB 2 card might be an option (I found several at thrift stores etc).

    Rufus doesn't increase the speed really. My method works without modifying the source, rufus installs a custom boot loader into it.

    USB2 works inside windows, so for only the setup phase of windows XP that's isn't such a trouble. thx for the help anyway.

    The most important of it - It isn't a virus or 'trojan' as that newbie AV flags. Demo EXE isn't an application, and is smaller.

    Don't really understand but okay.
    I did not allow but it still partitioned the disk. Will it not work or something?

    I can't make windows 8 USB from your software Win USB Maker beta2 !!!
    boot fail to start
