Any thoughts about Windows 11 be able to use dedup from Windows Server 2022 or 2019? The build numbers don't line up between 11 and 2022 (20348 vs 22000+) Technically it's Windows 10 21H2, so it should be compatible like W10 was.
As far as I can tell, latest dedup files work fine for now. That will likely change though as they mux around with more and more stuff, or whenever a new server build of the files come out, whichever one
Speaking of compatibility you should be aware that the on disk format of deduped files changed a few times in the past. 10240 to 14393 systems are unable to read deduped files coming from 16299+ systems (and win8x systems are unable to read w10 deduped volumes). If you need to read the newer format with say Server 2016 you can replace its dedup.sys with one coming from 16.299+. The deduplication itself will not work but the deduped files will be readable again. (The same trick will not work on w81/server2012)
hey there, could someone post the link for the dedup files for win10 21h1? i'm having issues in locating them, if you are not able, which edition of windows server should I use to get the packages? thanks Majid
That folder contains Microsoft-Windows-Dedup-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.19041.1.cab, but I saw a higher version mentioned somewhere in posts: Microsoft-Windows-Dedup-Package-amd64-10.0.19041.746.cab Do they provide the same functionality?
here are some notes that may be of use to you, the up to date packages can (I believe) be got from the relevent server release on UUP Dump
Thanks but this is probably missing fileserver package? Is there any guide on how to extract and package into cab ? I've the 20H2 image buy dont know how to extract exactly.
I was able to extract the two packages below from Windows Server 20H2 ISO and it installed properly. Microsoft-Windows-FileServer-ServerCore-Package-amd64-10.0.19041.1.cab Microsoft-Windows-Dedup-Package-amd64-10.0.19041.746.cab But Get-DedupVolume and Enable-DedupVolume commands don't show any result and get stuck a blinking cursor. I found event log below for a failing ddpsvc. Any idea what could be the issue ? Log Name: System Source: Service Control Manager Event ID: 7024 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Description: The ddpsvc service terminated with the following service-specific error: Catastrophic failure
[HELP] - Reinstall OS 21H1. Before is 20H1. - Can't open, rename, copy, edit files on data partition now. - File size on disk 0 bytes. Has anyone ever faced this? Please help.
I'm very confused. I don't remember exactly which version I installed. I will try packages form post #709. Hope miracles happen.
Has anyone found the dedup packages for Windows Server 2022? My Windows 10 client has updated to 20270 (blame that on wrong Insider Preview settings) and now I cannot access deduped files on my data drive. I downloaded the 20270 FoD ISO but did not find any dedup packages.
Any news on Windows 11-conpat files? Forgot all about dedup being a issue for newer builds until recently noticed that dedup is no longer working and I can no longer access deduped files. Trying to apply 19041 dedup packages gets "The specified package is not applicable to this image"
