There is an even better solution now https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/azure-stack-hci-hyper-v-2022-free-personnal-use-only.84238/ Lean like hypercore, free like hypercore, but comes with dedup packages already installed and based on server 2022.
I think w7/whs2011/w server 2008r2 are the minimum, given it was released in 2011 or so after MS removed the great pooling solution of Whs 2007 A drive pool memeber is a normal HDD, from deduplication POV. Drive pool doesn't make the deduplication any slower or faster, it just add raid like features. (you can pool a number of HDDs, of any size, and/or keep them duplicated, per entire volumes or per single folders) A great feature is also the possibility to create a pool where one of the members is an SSD and another is HDD, the resulting pool will be as fast as the SSD, while keeping resilience thanks the HDD. The files will be read/write from/to the faster media, while the slower will be duplicated in background

You need to install the plain packages (the ones w/o en-GB) before the language files (the ones with en~GB) are accepted
Using Server 25066 packages through quite a few Win 11 Dev/Beta builds without problem, until the recent 22610. After 22610 update, I can not start dedup service with "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file." error / dedup operation event "A required filter driver is either no installed, not loaded or not ready for service." Tried Server 25099 packages but no help. Considering a roll back to 22598...
I agree. It stores files locally as normal files, but works as an overlay file system. For example, I have drives Q R S for my recorded TV. The pool is called T, and I can access the files by going to Q R or S. Another good software like this is snapraid, which does a snapshot version of raid 5/6, not touching the original files or putting them striped etc, which makes recovery much more difficult in case of failure of the array.
With Windows 11 Dev being on Build 25115 and Windows Server vNext on Build 25110, it looks like the build numbers might start lining up again, like on Windows 8 through 10. Has anyone tried or have dedup files for the new Win11 Dev?
Hi all, Does anyone have Dedup running on Windows 10 21H2 (19044)? I've tried using multiple file sets and following multiple scrappy guides to no avail. Cheers.
Does anybody still have the Dedup files for 10.0.17763.1? dedup-10.0.17763.1.7z I'm trying to add dedup to HyperV Core 2019.
anyone got this working on latest WIndows 11 build? I am on Windows 10 21H2 with dedupe drive and want to upgrade to Windows 11
No, given we have handy the Server 11 (almost weekly) releases I see no point in filling my HDDs with Win11 crap, nor to waste my time cleaning up them. Even if you don't want the server, you can just use a Win 11 client build 25xxx which should accept the corresponding dedup packages from Server 11
