After reformatting the USB stick, ISOtoUSB software still gives error message. It actually gives two messages (see attached image). One of the messages is "Burn the ISO file to USB disk has been successfully completed", but the status in the software shows "Error".
I have not seen you produce the errors you claim you saw when using ISOtoUSB. You have also not given this tool a try https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/xp-installation.75391/page-3#post-1385152 Beyond that, I no longer know how to help you. -- I suspect you may need a new USB drive if you continue to get errors when making a bootable USD or the USB port (plug) has gone bad.
All right. I will try the winsetupfromUSB and try a different usb if it does not work. By the way, the error message from using ISOtoUSB is at the bottom of the figure where there is a box for status. In the box, it says "Error". The figure is attached.
I tried a new USB with the WinSetupFromUSB, but the app does not allow me to choose XP iso in the "Windows 2000/XP/2003 Setup" box (see attached figure). When I locate the folder containing the ISO file, it does not show up.
You are to extract the ISO into its own folder. I suggest you use 7zip. Then point WinSetupFromUSB to that folder. -- The screenshot of the app makes that clear
it worked! However, there are 4 options in the GRUB4DOS window at the startup: 1. Auto-detect and use F6 SATA/RAID/SCSI Driver 2. Auto-detect and use F6 SATA/RAID/SCSI Driver + Firadisk 3. First part of Windows XP professional SP3 setup from partition 0 4. Second part of Windows XP professional SP3 setup/Boot first internal disk Which one should I choose? Thanks a lot!
I went along with option 3. It asks me for product key during the set up, and there seems no way to bypass that step (see attached photo). Is there any valid product key I can use in this forum? Thanks.
I am sure one of these will work. -- Trial and error will decide which one. Then use the attached to activate [Mod edit: We don't support hactivation.]
For a machine like this I highly recommend XP X64 too. Gigabyte drivers still have XP pro compatible, since most modern chipsets still support it. I have a 8350 myself, 8gigs and soon 16. It also remain widely used in China, Japan and Korea for some reason. Might want to dualboot, like XP pro/ Win7/Linux when needed to switch between gaming/work/...
