Did you check to see if something modified your visual effects in XP? Were you using a tweaking program? They love to turn off visual effects which would block you from using themes if they turned it off. Make sure your Theme service is on as well.

When you see the error message what does it say?

    thanx romans. It worked.
Previously I tried this method. But wasn't working. May be it was of another version. uxthemepatcher 6.0 worked well.
