Hmm... ok. I have serveral devices in my boxes that are not automaticly recognized by Windows OS and need appropriate drivers, eg: C-Media High Def. Audio Device; Winbond Smart Card Reader. However I can see their Device IDs.

In my case I can only see what I mentioned before; so no device ID, unfortunately!

The Atheros WLAN card should almost certainly work in XP if you have the correct drivers, I say install XP full, update fully via LAN to SP3 and all windows updates, install all drivers that you can, then we'll give a shot at getting your WLAN working

    Driver Genius should find something

EDIT - I see you don't actually know what the make and model of WLAN is ? But you just tried a few random drivers ?

You need to find out what it is or we can't find the drivers for it

If I understood correct the OP actually tried 2 different USB2 WLAN adapters... (1) Ahteros *AR5007G* WLAN Adapter and (2) Sitecom *Realtek RTL8192S* WLAN Adapter. Both should work fine on XP - However for reasons unknown he didn't manage to get either to work on this 'XP whateva lite' version.

That's what I thought at first, but then I read it again and it seems like he doesn't know which adapter he used, but he tried the Atheros and Realtek drivers for it, neither of which worked

EDIT - Actually yea I think you're right, he tried 2 drivers for 2 different adapters but couldn't get either to work

And I bet its because of the Lite version of XP removing services required for WLAN

I suggest we stop trying to troubleshoot his problems with WLAN when it is obviously because he is using a hacked OS with parts missing

In post #31 I already mentioned the two drivers; I know they are the right ones, as the devices are all external, bought by me, and I received the appropriate drivers on CD for these devices. The fact is that although they work on XP full, which is to heavy for the laptop, they don't work on XP lite! That's why I found the solution in Win7Lite, in which the WLAN drivers were just fine, but in the Win7Lite situation there is no sound!

Its not the drivers that are not working in XP Lite, its something that has been removed, likely a service that WLAN requires

Your machine struggling with XP but not XP Lite makes little sense, things that are removed from XP to make the Lite versions are generally done so to save HDD space, you can disable other stuff once you have it installed, such as set performance options for best performance instead of Appearance, that alone takes a massive load off the GPU and slow machines can function normally again

Install the full version of XP, get it running 100%, then start disabling things yourself, then if something stops working, you know what it was and can enable it again and move on

None of the drivers are working because your Lite Windows has the parts needed to get it working, missing !

That's exactly what it is! Thank you for your understanding!:D

I think that till now all the XP lite versions I tried (at least 6!) lack of WLAN functionality. In fact I liked them very much, because of their speed, but the lack of WLAN is a no-go for me.

Install FULL version of XP I posted link to website which has registry files to disable services that have been tested. You do not need lite versions with files Removed all you need is to disable unneeded services that will make system run faster.

No that would require another forum no modified ISO files allowed on MDL, For exactly that reason Clean installation unmodified ISO no problems.
